The Assistant Manager, Marketing & Communications (Contract Employee)is responsible for supporting and driving communication strategies for the Ad Council brand and its social impact campaigns. You will help identify and manage the right, targeted tactics that can truly surround an issue, reach an audience and make a difference in our world — whether it’s drafting pitches that will book stories at top-tier outlets likeToday and the New York Times, writing speeches and talking points for top industry executives and Ad Council stakeholders, or weighing in on strategy for our partner PR, social and digital agencies.

This position is perfect if you have strong written and oral communication skills, have an appetite for learning the latest in PR and social media trends and are passionate about social change.

This is acontract employee role. This means that, while the position is at all times one of “at will employment”, the Ad Council anticipates at present that the employment length would be approximately 6 months with the possibility to extend the contract. The compensation for this position is $5,250 monthly, paid semi-monthly. Contract employees will be eligible to participate in limited benefits and paid time off. We are also open to this role being a fully remote position.

What you’ll do:

  • Assisting with researching and identifying industry speaking engagements for Ad Council thought leaders.
  • Researching and drafting talking points for events and panels at conferences like SXSW, Davos, Cannes Lions, and Advertising Week.
  • Assist in ideating, project managing and drafting blog posts for AdCouncil.org.
  • Stay on top of industry news and trends and helping determine how to position internal activities and projects so that they’re relevant to the wider news cycle
  • Assist with the production of partner case studies, videos, and award submissions.
  • Lead data entry for the thought leadership team, including updating fields in Salesforce, Smartsheets and Asana.
  • Assist with day-to-day activities, including scheduling partner calls, fielding social graphics, etc.

PR & Social Media:

  • Assisting the team in the development and implementation of PR/social media programs (including managing external agencies and freelancers) designed to extend the reach of a social good issue, including participating in brainstorms, drafting plans, and project managing day-to-day implementation of tactics.
  • Counseling Ad Council campaign managers and clients on public relations and social media activities, opportunities, and strategies.
  • Drafting press releases, talking points, pitches, speeches, blog posts, and social media posts.
  • Assisting with day-to-day activities such as background research on reporters, bloggers and potential spokespeople.
  • Provide in-person support for priority speaking engagements, as needed.

General:

  • Identifying, onboarding, and helping to manage external agencies, vendors and partners for content production, media relations and other types of programs
  • Responsible for various administrative duties including processing SOWs, tracking billings, managing Salesforce entries, etc.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 1+ years’ experience in a social media, corporate communications, public relations, journalism or another relevant role
  • Excellent communicator—great oral, presentation, and writing skills
  • Social Media and PR savvy – fluency with social strategies across a range of platforms and public relations tactics and deliverables
  • Creative thinker—ability to come up with new ideas and creatively position a panel, event, or op-ed
  • Critical thinker—ability to research and synthesize a variety of topics and pick out an Ad Council-relevant angle
  • Great self-management ability – organized and detail-oriented with a capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented, deadline-driven environment.
