What You'll Do
  1. Work with a cross-functional team of physicists, electronics engineers, and firmware engineers to create next-generation quantum instruments.
  2. Code and verify embedded systems for ST microcontrollers, including COTS microcontrollers and MCUs on custom ASICs.
  3. Implement control algorithms essential to the operation of precision sensing instruments.
  4. Code drivers for peripherals including mixed-signal devices from electronic schematics.
  5. Collaborate with hardware engineers and assist with board testing and hardware bring-up.
  6. Contribute to continuous improvement of our development process by writing task tickets (GitHub).
  7. Describe your work in code reviews, project reviews, and retrospectives.
RequirementsWhat We're Looking For
  1. Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering/Computer Science Graduate, BS/MS Degree with substantial course/lab/work in embedded systems. Other technical degrees will be considered, with 5+ years of directly relevant training/experience.
  2. US export control laws require “U.S. persons” including U.S. (born or naturalized), lawful permanent residents, and certain categories of refugees and asylees.
  3. Must be comfortable working in a laboratory environment.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and collaborators, both written and verbal.
  5. Required expertise:
    1. Write production-quality code for small embedded processors in C/C++.
    2. Comfortable using test and measurement equipment to confirm coding performance, including oscilloscopes, function generators, and voltmeters.
    3. Develop scripts in languages such as Python, Perl, etc.
    4. Write interrupts, drivers, and multi-threaded code for embedded MCUs (RTOSs and/or BareMetal).
    5. Interfacing with external devices through TCP, UDP, UART, SPI, I2C, etc.
    6. Design training/expertise with fixed-point algorithms such as digital filters.
    7. Able to isolate and fix bugs using debuggers and simulation.
  6. Nice-to-have expertise:
    1. Design and coding of control algorithms such as PID.
    2. Experience coding with assembly.
    3. Ethernet stacks on small embedded systems such as lwIP.
    4. Background working with SoC/FPGA devices.

Pay Range

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, performance bonus, benefits, and equity. The pay range for this position is $125,000 to $150,000 including annual bonus. It's atypical to be hired at the top end of this range directly out of college, as actual pay is based on several factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience level.
