Position Description: Employees in this role are responsible for overseeing nursing care in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice unit. The nurse in charge implements unit objectives and administrative policies while clinical supervision is provided by the Unit Director of Nurses.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Assign daily tasks and ensure their completion
  • Document patient data using EMR to improve care
  • Perform exams and procedures, and document them in EMR
  • Dispense medication and document administration
  • Attend meetings and share information with staff during regular meetings to support unit goals
  • Maintain adequate supplies and equipment
  • Collect statistical data, prepare reports, and maintain records
  • Participate in scheduling procedures and surgeries

About Managed Care:

TTUHSC Managed Care has been providing clinical and operational support to correctional facilities throughout West Texas and other regional areas since 1989, serving approximately 30,000 patients with comprehensive medical and health services.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program
  • Two years of nursing experience, including at least 6 months as a Registered Nurse
  • Valid, current RN license approved by the Texas State Board of Examiners

Occasional Duties: Other duties as assigned

Shift: Day
