Purpose:

The Residential Director is a staff member living in a university owned property assisting in the development of students in the community and managing the safety and security of the residents. The Residential Director is responsible for the general development, administration, and supervision of the student staff in the community. The goal of the position is to actively support the mission and goals of Lincoln University and the Office of Student Affairs.

The Residential Director should have a passion for working with a diverse student population, is committed to student learning and development, and has a strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Demonstrates initiative, possesses the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team, and maintains a positive attitude. The Assistant Coach supports the Head Football Coach in the administration of the Lincoln University football program.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for the development and management of an educational environment within the residential community that supports academic achievement and community development.
  • Responsible for the management of the residence life program including the daily operations of all university housing facilities, crisis management, and crisis response.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, appraising, and supervising a team of Residential Assistants in all residential communities; responsible for developing a cohesive and professional team.
  • Manages routine, critical, daily, and seasonal administrative tasks.
  • Facilitate positive interpersonal relationships within the residential community.
  • Schedules and follows up with on-going maintenance, repairs, or renovations to community spaces and general building condition.
  • Serves as a conduct hearing officer including developmental conversations, administering sanctions, and follow up as needed.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a workable system of communication with the staff and students.
  • Manage a yearly budget to support programming and outreach efforts and student staff training.
  • Work with individual students in the resolution of personal, social, or academic problems.
  • Create and implement social, recreational, and educational programming.
  • Maintain security, health, fire, and safety standards.
  • Provide adequate staff coverage by participating in an on-call duty program ensuring that student crisis is addressed, and follow-up is conducted. This duty program includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays providing coverage to all residential facilities 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
  • Manage administrative functions such as scheduling shifts to ensure staff coverage in all facilities, completing time sheets, balancing accounts, and completing reports, including, but not limited to, occupancy reports and incident reports.
  • Develop, provide, and participate in educational staff development and training experiences for staff on an on-going basis (i.e., staff meetings, trainings, etc.).
  • Serve on emergency on-call duty rotation for on campus residential students.
  • Oversee all aspects of the defensive back's academics and player personnel.
  • Assist the Head Football Coach with recruiting, student-athlete, personal/professional development, academic advising, scouting reports, film review, and game preparation.
  • Operate within the guidelines of Lincoln University, GLVC, and NCAA Rules and Regulations.
  • Support Head Coach with maintaining atmosphere of compliance, student-athlete wellbeing, diversity, equity and inclusion, and championship culture.
  • Collaborate extensively with other departments on campus including but not limited to Student Affairs, Provost/Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, Advancement, and Student Success.
  • Conduct internal/external engagement, i.e. phone, email, mailing, zoom with various constituent groups including, but not limited to faculty, staff, students, university personnel, donors, alumni, and fans.
  • Travel required as it relates to position's responsibilities.
  • Other responsibilities/duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach or VP of Advancement and Athletics.

Qualifications:

  • An ability to maintain personal equilibrium in the face of many different pressures.

  • Demonstrated ability to address inappropriate student behavior using student development and conflict resolution strategies.
  • An ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated skill in multi-tasking, organization, planning, creativity and innovation.
  • Demonstrated experience in fiscal management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated successful record or working with a diverse student, faculty, and staff community.
  • Commitment to the wellness model of health.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required.
  • 1-2 years' prior residence life, student affairs, or related experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Previous experience in the areas of programming planning and implementation, and crisis management.

Physical Demands:

  • Light sedentary office work.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
