Northern Wasco County People's Utility District is hiring a Temporary, 40 hours per week Customer Service Representative. This position will work a 4 day per week schedule, Monday through Thursday 7am to 6pm. This position is expected to last 3-6 months, but no more than 6 months.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The Customer Service Representative I will be responsible for providing professional and courteous service to all visitors and PUD customers. This will include actively listening to customer inquiries and providing guidance or a resolution to the request or directing to the appropriate department.
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist customers with cash, check, electronic check, or credit card payments in person, by mail, drop box, or over the phone to ensure payments are processed in a timely manner.
- Balancing cash drawers and receipts daily.
- Receive and direct incoming telephone calls and visitors.
- Assist customers with new account set up and gathering all information needed for accurate billing.
- Assist customers with requests for disconnects, address changes and updating account information to maintain accurate billing as needed.
- Communicate PUD billing and payment options to meet individual customer needs and increase efficiency for customers and NWCPUD.
- Address customer concerns on service policies, security deposits, billing questions and outages by providing accurate information and reasonable, effective, and timely solutions.
- Perform clerical tasks to organize work, including filing, typing, and data entry.
- Maintain an adequate supply of forms at the front counter and lobby.
- Other duties as assigned.
Secondary Functions:
- Cross-train with other positions to cover vacations, sick leave, and vacant positions.
- Assist in promoting positive public relations for the PUD by participating in public affairs events as requested.
- All PUD employees are expected to work outside of normal business hours when required during emergency restoration activities and to accomplish other special projects.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: PLEASE NOTE: This position requires the use of various tools/equipment that are related to performing the essential functions of this job.
- Excellent skills in customer service, communication, reading, writing, and presenting.
- Intermediate mathematical skills and proficiency with a 10-key calculator.
- Must type 40 words per minute minimum.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, internal systems, and database software.
- Basic knowledge of the operations of a PUD.
- Demonstrates cultural competency through respectful, inclusive work habits and through the valuing and welcoming of cultural differences in all position responsibilities.
- Supports the District’s mission to serve our customers and foster a safe and positive work environment by personally exhibiting behavior that aligns with the District’s Core Values & Beliefs.
- Must perform the duties of this position in a safe and efficient manner and follow all safety regulations and protocols.
Supervisory and/or Functional or Technical Responsibility or Oversight:
- No supervisory responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS: Recommended Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications): Other combinations of education and/or experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to do the work will also be considered.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One (1) year of experience in handling cash, customer service, billing or accounts receivable required.
- Must have a valid, current driver license. Driving record must be acceptable and insurable by the PUD’s insurance carrier at standard group rates. An annual consent for a release of one's driving record is also required.
Job Scope:
- Works on assignments that are standardized and routine in nature where limited judgment is required. Problems and unfamiliar situations are referred to others for resolution. Exercises initiative to accomplish assignments. Job duties are clearly defined, and order of tasks can be modified within parameters set by supervisor.
- Tasks and information relative to this position are of a confidential and/or sensitive nature requiring strict confidentiality and professional conduct.
Mental or Visual Demand:
Continuous mental and/or visual attention; the work is either repetitive or diversified requiring constant alertness to monitor the production process and/or identify defects.
Working Conditions:
The job is typically performed under very comfortable working conditions; any disagreeable elements are generally absent during normal performance of job.
Physical Requirements:
Requires sitting, standing, continuous typing. May on rare occasions lift, pull and/or carry up to 25lbs and push up to 50lbs.
