ADULT EDUCATION

Labouré Adult Education offers comprehensive, high-quality educational services to advance and accelerate the academic achievement of adult immigrant learners who face significant barriers in their search of viable career pathways and self-sufficiency. The program provides 5 levels of ESOL instruction from beginning to advanced levels of language proficiency, college and career readiness programming, flexible schedule, conversation club, and distance learning options.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Morning Program Coordinator/Advisor for Laborer Adult Education Program oversees and coordinates the morning program operations, students’ assessment and intake, and advising services. The Morning Program Coordinator/Advisor works collaboratively with the Program Administrator.

REPORTS TO

The Morning Program Coordinator/Advisor reports to the Program Administrator of Laboure Adult Education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates the morning program instructional activities.
  • Oversees student intake activities for the morning program: conducts initial student interviews and provides a basic program orientation.
  • Determines, in cooperation with the Student Support Assistants and Teachers, student class assignments.
  • Meets with each morning program student to prepare an individual educational/vocational plan in conjunction with classroom teachers each 12-14 week cycle. Provides career and education advising to DL students.
  • Coordinates curriculum development activities for the morning program.
  • Conducts informal classroom observations and provides feedback to teachers and the Program Administrator.
  • Participates in staff professional development planning and implementation.
  • Facilitates student access to other educational, skills training, and/or higher educational programs, their requirements and other information. Advises students about other types of community programs to help resolve personal issues.
  • Coordinates assessment of the morning program students.
  • Substitute for teachers.
  • Supervises the development and implementation of the volunteer tutoring component.
  • Develops and implements strategies for obtaining student feedback and incorporate data in new course offerings and staff professional development.
  • Uses data from the program to inform planning, resource development, and funding applications.
  • Attends all internal and external meetings and trainings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in education or related filed.
  • Masters in TESOL
  • A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in a similar environment preferable.
  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a similar environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of educational theory and best practice.
  • Good leadership, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and compassionately in a culturally competent manner, with students of a wide variety of backgrounds, skill levels, race and ethnicity with varying level of English language skills.
  • Ability to lead a program team and partner with other program employees and leadership to assure cohesive and barrier free service delivery within the agency.
