Responsibilities:

  • Support tailings and heap leach projects in the USA and internationally.
  • Assist with earthen dam designs and construction oversight.
  • Conduct geotechnical site assessments for mining infrastructure.
  • Manage material characterization activities, including field data gathering and laboratory programs.
  • Conduct stability and deformation analyses for mining infrastructure.
  • Perform seepage analyses using software like Seep/W and Rocscience.
  • Conduct liquefaction and dynamic analyses for tailings and foundations.
  • Evaluate bearing capacity and settlement analyses.
  • Assist with tailings dam breach evaluations.
  • Maintain client relationships and assist with proposals.
  • Develop and implement project management plans.
  • Provide training to mid-level and junior engineers.
  • Assist with design drawings using Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Prepare construction specifications.
  • Lead tailings dam and mine waste projects, including investigations, design, and construction oversight.
  • Perform geotechnical analyses and design for tailings dams, embankments, and related structures.
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and geotechnical inspections.
  • Develop and review geotechnical reports and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Manage project budgets and schedules.
  • Interact with clients and stakeholders to ensure project success and client satisfaction.
  • Keep up to date with industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to tailings and dams.

Requirements

  • Master of Science preferred; Bachelor of Science considered.
  • Civil Engineering degrees from ABET-accredited universities preferred.
  • Alternative degrees like Geologic Engineering or Mining Engineering considered with relevant coursework.
  • 6+ years for Senior Level with an MS degree; 8+ years for Senior Level with a BS degree.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Experience with standard geotechnical design software like Rocscience, GeoStudios, etc.
  • Numerical modeling experience advantageous.
  • Basic understanding of Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Proficient in standard material testing and index tests.
  • Knowledgeable in data analysis from compressibility, hydraulic conductivity, and shear strength test data.
  • Experience with dynamic testing desired.
  • PE registration or a clear path to registration.
  • Must be able to travel in the U.S. and internationally to support field programs.
  • Experience writing technical reports, memorandums, and proposals.
  • Working knowledge of geotechnical monitoring instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with various geotechnical tools for subsurface assessments (drilling methods, CPT, geophysics, etc.).
  • Knowledge of numerical modeling methods and software.
