Food Sourcing Manager Job Description The Gourmandise School
Overview
The Food Sourcing Managers role is to manage the process of sourcing ingredients for classes and events at our recreational school in downtown Santa Monica, as well as overseeing the organization, storage and management of sourced ingredients. This role will coordinate with the Head of Operations and Instructors on the class schedule, menus and recipes to create shopping lists for classes and events. Building and maintaining relationships with key vendors is key, as well as maintaining a process for efficient food sourcing to minimize food waste and cost. The staff and leadership operate as a team and this position is a key function in the cooking school. It will also involve additional administrative responsibilities that other managers share to run the business, such as opening as a keyholder, assisting with customers and helping manage staff. This position will also have a staff member designated to assist them with certain functions of the job.
Responsibilities:
- Create shopping lists for bi-weekly food sourcing from the farmers market, online vendor orders, specialty stores and other markets.
- Manage the process for incoming deliveries and sorting for classes and storage.
- Manage the paperwork and receipts for all orders.
- Maintain appropriate par levels on food staples and manage the walk-ins based on FIFO.
- Efficiently manage proteins to minimize waste and maximize cost savings.
- Work with instructors and staff on:
- Special dietary notes for students such as vegetarian or allergy requirements.
- Quantities per prep instructions
Competencies:
- Good communication skills, Spanish speaking a plus, not required
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Proficient in basic computer skills and the Google and Microsoft suites
- Solid understanding of food safety and cleanliness, per standard Food Handlers principals
- Good relationship and follow up skills
Requirements:
- Must be able to lift heavy up to 40-50 lbs. objects
- Must have valid Driver License, an automobile and current auto insurance coverage. Mileage is reimbursed.
- Food Handlers card and Sexual Harassment Training certification
Schedule:
- 5 days a week, must work Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Some flexibility on shift schedule.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Benefits: 10 days vacation after 1 years service; free monthly cooking or baking classes.
