Overview: The Benefits Specialist is responsible for administering employee benefits programs, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing excellent customer service to employees. This role involves managing benefits enrollment, assisting employees with benefits-related inquiries, and collaborating with the HR team to develop and implement benefits strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Benefits Administration:
  • Administer employee benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, and other voluntary benefits.
    • Coordinate benefits enrollment, changes, and terminations.
    • Ensure accurate and timely processing of benefits-related transactions.
  1. Employee Support:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits inquiries.
    • Provide detailed information and assistance on benefits options, coverage, and eligibility.
    • Conduct benefits orientations and information sessions for new hires and existing employees.
  1. Compliance and Reporting:
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and ACA.
    • Prepare and submit required benefits reports and filings.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date benefits records and documentation.
  1. Vendor Management:
  • Liaise with benefits providers and vendors to resolve issues and ensure high-quality service.
    • Assist in evaluating and selecting benefits vendors and plans.
    • Monitor and review benefits costs and performance metrics.
  1. Benefits Strategy:
  • Assist in the development and implementation of benefits strategies that align with the company’s goals and objectives.
    • Conduct research and analyze trends to recommend enhancements to the benefits programs.
    • Participate in benefits surveys and benchmarking to ensure competitive benefits offerings.
  1. Communication and Education:
  • Develop and distribute benefits communication materials, including newsletters, brochures, and FAQs.
    • Create and maintain benefits information on the company intranet or benefits portal.
    • Educate employees on wellness programs and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred, Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3-4 years of experience in benefits administration or a related HR role.
  • Strong knowledge of employee benefits laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in HRIS and benefits administration systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation or similar certification.
  • Experience with benefits administration in a large organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
