SUMMARY

An at will, part time Research Pharmacologist is being recruited for a lab that examines the pharmacology and neuroscience of neuropsychiatric disorders, including addiction. The incumbent will possess: independent problem-solving skills, a high level of reliability and self-motivation, established organizational skills (including data management), excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work in a complex laboratory environment with multiple individuals.

  1. Perform analysis on laboratory experiments including: receptor binding assays, drug activity, tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry and microscopy experiments on cultured cells and/or rodent brain tissue.
  2. Perform analysis and provide consultation on molecular assays, including but not limited to western blotting, immunoprecipitation, RNA isolation, cDNA preparation, quantitative PCR, PCR, cloning, and gel electrophoresis.
  3. Recordkeeping, data organization and data management (e.g., experimental records, lab notebooks, data entry, data checking, data summary, data analysis, data graphing).
  4. Writing grant applications and manuscripts. Also required are database searches, lab meeting participation, and special assignments related to preparation of laboratory protocols (animal, chemical, and biosafety), posters for conferences and reports.

JOB DUTIES

Technical duties (specific to those listed above) include molecular biology, biochemistry and pharmacology research techniques (including molecular cloning, RT-PCR, RNA/DNA extraction, viral-mediated transduction), mammalian tissue culture, small animal surgery, understanding of G protein-coupled receptor function, data analysis, and other laboratory techniques.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Completion of PhD in relevant field of study, OR Master's degree with major courses in relevant field and 3 years of relevant experience, OR Bachelor's degree with major courses in field of research and 7 years of relevant experience. Prior research experience in molecular and/or behavioral research fields; prior experience handling small rodents; statistics; research design; scientific writing; computer-based research; experience with Microsoft Office.
