POSITION SUMMARY

Pioneer Technical Services is currently looking for Field Technician to perform environmental monitoring and data collection. The Field Technician collects samples for chemical and physical analysis and performs field testing in accordance with applicable standards. Tasks include but are not limited to soil, groundwater and surface water sampling, conducting site visits, and compiling and organizing reports. Candidate must have a valid Class D driver's license.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Environmental Sampling:
  • Collect soil, water, and air samples using various collection techniques.
  • Follow standardized protocols for instrument calibration, sample collection, preservation, and labeling.
  • Record accurate field data, including sample location, date, and relevant environmental conditions.
  1. Fieldwork:
  • Conduct site visits to assess current environmental conditions, identify potential hazards, and evaluate compliance with regulations.
  • Set up and maintain environmental monitoring equipment (e.g., water quality instruments, air samplers).
  • Assist engineering personnel to perform groundwater monitoring, soil characterization and testing, and vegetation surveys.
  1. Laboratory Support:
  • Prepare samples for laboratory analysis (e.g., filtering and/or preserving water samples, drying and/or sieving soil samples).
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure timely and accurate analysis.
  • Prepare samples for transport and complete chain of custody documentation.
  • Maintain sample inventory and tracking.
  1. Data Management:
  • Compile and organize field data for use into technical reports.
  • Use software tools (e.g., Excel, GIS) to manage environmental field data.
  1. Health and Safety:
  • Participate in task risk analysis discussions.
  • Follow safety protocols during fieldwork and sample collection.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Report any safety incidents promptly.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Willingness to learn environmental regulations and guidelines. Understands compliance requirements and assists in monitoring and reporting.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues and laboratory staff. Communicates findings and insights clearly to contribute to collective goals.
  • Safety Awareness: Prioritizes health and safety during fieldwork. Adheres to safety protocols and promptly reports incidents.
  • Organizational Skills: Manages sample inventory, tracking, and documentation efficiently. Maintains accurate and legible records for future reference.
  • Communication: Communicates technical information effectively, both verbally and in writing. Assists in preparing technical reports and summaries.

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in environmental science, biology, chemistry, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in environmental sampling, fieldwork, or laboratory work preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in varying field conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills.
