JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for the daily collection of residential and commercial refuse within Fairfield Glade. Employee’s daily responsibilities consist of but not limited to morning rounds, daily routes, evening routes. For morning rounds and daily routes, laborer will work in a crew of two employees that consists of themselves and the sanitation driver. Evening rounds consist of primarily working alone.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Morning rounds and daily routes consist of completing residential refuse pickup, collection of refuse from Fairfield Glade Community Club facilities, and commercial businesses under contract for refuse collection.
  2. Evening rounds consists of checking trash liners at St. George and Dartmoor Marinas, the 11 lakes, and Robin Hood Park.
  3. Responsible for doing minor preventative maintenance (greasing the fittings on the compacter of the sanitation truck, etc.)
  4. Responsible for keeping the vehicles/equipment clean.
  5. Monitor refuse to ensure that products not allowed in the landfill are not placed into the sanitation truck for disposal and that property owners are promptly and properly notified of county rules and regulations concerning refuse disposal.
  6. Must be safety conscious, being extremely careful working on roadways and high traffic areas where other vehicles and pedestrians may be.
  7. Must adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  8. Must adhere to daily schedules and routes and tactfully communicate with irate customers concerning trash pickup and items excluded as well as communicate effectively with driver and other department members.
  9. Must be able to work with a very small crew of two on a daily basis to accomplish tasks.
  10. Roadside trash pickup.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GED

Sanitation Truck, pickup truck

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times during working hours.

Employee must be flexible with the possibility of work schedule changes and be able to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed.

Must be able to work outside year round including periods of inclement weather such as rain, ice, snow and high temperatures.

COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Active listening skills and ability to articulate information both verbally and in writing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Normal speech, hearing, and vision; lifting up to 40 pounds (more with assistance).

SAFETY:

Follow all FGCC safety programs, safety guidelines, policies and procedures. Wear, use and enforce all FGCC personal protection equipment (PPE) as needed on specific jobs and tasks. Be aware of chemical safety and be familiar with all pertinent Safety Data Sheets (SDS) of chemicals which are used in the workplace. Follow all FGCC safety rules including all local, state and federal regulations as they pertain to work at FGCC.

Ability to maintain composure when dealing with stressful situations.
