Quality Manager


Position Summary

Develops and maintains site specific ISO 9001 and 13485 quality system and ensures that all products manufactured at the facility meet or exceed customer requirements.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Serves as a positive role model consistent with corporate culture at all times.
  2. Abides by correctional facility rules, policies, and procedures.
  3. Provides support to entire manufacturing team
  4. Has final say in "accept" or "reject" decisions for manufactured product
  5. Provides support to Maintenance and Engineering on developing shop-aids and fixtures
  6. Takes a proactive role with vendors, customers, quality representatives, and company personnel to discuss and resolve quality problems.
  7. Prepares for and represents the company during customer and 3rd-party audits.
  8. Drafts Topeka Rice Road quality-related procedures as needed
  9. Completes return goods report. Follows up with sales on necessary corrective action to be taken. Engages with Manufacturing in the corrective action process when necessary
  10. Leads quality overview sessions for new associate orientation and educates Topeka Rice Road associates on quality-related processes as appropriate.
  11. Prepares all necessary QA reports as required by customers and Director of Quality or COO.
  12. Travels to other plants, corporate meetings and seminars, requiring being away from home several days at a time.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Other duties as assigned.
  2. Ensures that external and internal customers’ needs are met.
  3. Reports directly to Director of Quality and is responsible for product quality. As such, all staff within the Rice Road manufacturing facility will be reporting to this position in any matters concerning quality.
  4. Essential contact with all levels of customer organizations
  5. Assists Plant Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor with security
  6. Manages Quality activities and responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of associates assigned to quality


DIMENSIONS OF AUTHORITY

  • Positions that report to this position: Quality Technician
  • Limits of authority to change subordinates’ salaries, job assignments, operating policies, etc.: Responsible for overall department duties, including hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performances, rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Limits of capital expenditure authority: Can suggest capital expenditure proposals, with input from Director of Quality, COO and Executive Team approval.
  • Other limits to authority: Authority to shut down production due to quality issues.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

To perform at a proficient level and to be fully qualified, a person would be expected to have:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Management and Quality Seminar training (both in house and outside) Prefer 2 years technical degree in related field.
  • Experience: 5 years applied experience. 5 – 7 years experience in a supervisory capacity suitable equivalent for above education.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  1. Effective human relation skills.
  2. Mathematical skills, use of general measuring tools, calipers, tape measures, and gauges.
  3. Ability to delegate.
  4. Good communication skills both oral and written.
  5. Ability to train associates technically in areas supervised.
  6. Problem solving and documentation.
  7. Motivational skills.
  8. Sensitive to ergonomic issues (good work habits).
  9. Skill in use of general office equipment.
  10. Dexterity and preciseness required to operate gauges and test equipment.
  11. Knowledge of QA manual and company quality requirements.
  12. Ability to establish methods for using statistical analysis, precision measurements, and process
  13. capability studies.
  14. Organized, responsible, punctual, and self-disciplined.
  15. Ability to communicate with associates and other business contacts in a courteous and
  16. professional manner.
  17. Ability to find problems, looks for cause or effect, and finds solutions.
  18. Follow oral and written instructions.
  19. Ability to prioritize work, meets deadlines, and performs accurately.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Close visual work on the computer for long periods of time.
  2. Ability to read, write and communicate 100% of the time via phone, e-mail or in person to internal
  3. and external customers.
  4. Moves frequently about the facility walking, bending, climbing and reaching.
  5. Able to remain in a stationary position standing or sitting 50% of the time.
  6. Occasionally lifts/and or carries objects about the facility up to 35 lbs. or with the proper
  7. equipment.

Work Environment:

  1. Typical manufacturing environment, exposed to noise, constant motion, odors and variation in temperature.
