General Description:
The Peer Recovery Specialist is a dedicated member of the substance use response team, who utilizes personal recovery experience to provide support and guidance to individuals with substance use disorders at Parrish Medical Center, Space Coast Health Centers, and the community. The role is central to the ER Diversion Program, focusing on reducing reliance on emergency services and facilitating access to appropriate outpatient and community-based resources and treatment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building rapport with patients and providing empathetic support through a peer perspective.
  • Utilizing personal experiences to inspire hope and promote sustainable engagement in recovery.
  • Assisting individuals in identifying strengths and applying them to overcome substance use challenges.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to develop comprehensive, individualized care plans.
  • Providing supportive transitions from acute care settings to outpatient services or community recovery resources.
  • Advocating for patients rights and preferences, promoting autonomy and resilience.
  • Linking individuals to primary care providers, behavioral health resources, and services such as Medication for Opiate Use Disorder (MOUD).
Requirements:

Formal Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Specialized training in Peer Recovery within the first 6 months of employment.
Work Experience:
  • Personal lived experience with substance use recovery with two years of recovery experience..
  • Knowledge of community resources and the local healthcare system are desirable.
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
  • Valid drivers license is required.
  • Must pass Level II background or be eligible for waiver from State of Florida
