Job Description

 

The Assistant Mechanic is responsible for working in an outdoor environment assisting company mechanics and project superintendents in their duties of repairing and maintaining railroad construction equipment.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing equipment – electrical, hydraulic, diesel and mechanical.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance activities on equipment.
  • Follow all company and federal safety requirements.
  • Report to company mechanic and project superintendents and follow directions to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a set of tools required to perform the work.
  • Ensure that all equipment operators perform greasing, safety, and oil checks daily and that records are maintained in accordance with FRA regulations.
  • This is redundant. Provide support as needed to move equipment from jobsite to Jobsite.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

 

  • Evaluate and make recommendations regarding required repairs.
  • Provide a high level of communication with company mechanic.
  • Employee is responsible for supplying mechanic tools.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Prior field service or mechanic experience preferred.
  • Prior work experience in an outdoor setting including excessive heat and cold.
  • Must have basic knowledge of troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical assemblies and testing experience.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities.
  • Detail Oriented.
  • Clean driving record and valid license.
  • Current DOT Medical card or ability to obtain.
