Staff Accountant

Pay Range: $24.00-$31.64

Summary: The Staff Accountant assists the Accounting Manager in performing general accounting procedures for the organization. This position is responsible for assisting in month end close and reporting. The Staff Accountant performs a variety of tasks including investment tracking, reconciling general ledger accounts, overseeing grants and pledges tracking, fixed asset tracking, communicating with outside parties, and a variety of other tasks as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare investment schedules and track investment activity. Record all related JE's and reconcile related accounts.
  • Maintain the fixed asset system. Track and monitor fixed assets including additions, disposals, and transfers. Record all related JE's and reconcile related accounts.
  • Maintain the grant tracking system. Record all grant-related activity on the financial statements and reconcile related accounts. Ensure accuracy of the net asset classifications.
  • Maintain the pledges tracking system. Record all pledge payments and maintain an accurate listing of pledges receivable. Record all related JE's and reconcile related accounts.
  • Prepare schedules for external auditors and, if required, communicate with confidence, tact, and resourcefulness.
  • Understands both GAAP and GAAS principles.
  • Assists Accounting Manager, Controller, and CFO in complete other projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or in a related field with a concentration in accounting required.
  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting policies and procedures and their practical application in real situations.
  • Knowledge and experience in business processes and systems with the ability to identify problems and apply the appropriate decision process to arrive at solution.
  • Understanding and proficiency in working with computer systems and operations. Experience in computerized integrated accounting systems required with experience in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of procurement, implementation, and utilization of integrated computer accounting software in a multi-user environment.
  • Systems orientation-ability to improve processes, both computers based, and procedure based
  • Ability to communicate effectively in order to complete required forms, reports and reporting
  • Must have the ability to perform light lifting if needed.
  • Possession of valid driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record
  • Attend required annual training and complete required background screening guidelines.
