Our editorial team is looking for an experienced Deputy Editor to oversee Reality TV content under the leadership of the Lead Editor. The selected candidate will have tremendous career growth opportunities within the organization. Please note that this role does not involve video editing or script editing.

​Responsibilities

  • Edit and publish multiple reality TV articles per day
  • Manage writers across different verticals
  • Assure there is content to be published and scheduled out
  • Participate in writer development and general writer management
    • Oversee and facilitate writer communication in Slack
    • Send feedback to writers according to TheThing's standards (as per our writing guides)
    • Work with new writers to develop their skills and help them adapt to TheThing’s standards
    • Work with existing writers to develop those suitable for internal development (staff writing, self-publishing, editing)
  • Idea generation
    • Develop content plans
    • Target reality TV topics
  • Additional tasks
    • Approve sniping SEO/angles
    • Identify evergreen articles to update

Requirements

  • Relevant experience in senior writing and editing roles (digital publications, entertainment content)
  • An understanding of list, evergreen, and news content
  • Broad working knowledge of reality TV shows (Bravo shows, TLC, Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, cable, competition shows, etc…) 
  • Quick learner with a strong sense of urgency
  • Ability to write articles free of typos and grammatical errors
  • Be able to work in the evenings and weekends

  • Image editing
  • SEO
  • Analytics (GA)
  • Freelance writer management
  • Proven track record of growing a team, expanding coverage, and driving traffic
