PARK AIDE III 

Seasonal, Full-time, Nonexempt

Effective 6/23/2024, the starting wage for this position will be $17.98/hour.


JOB DESCRIPTION:


Primary Duties: The primary duties of this position will be working with existing staff in the maintenance and repair of asphalt surfaces and other hardscape surfaces. Tasks will include cleaning and preparing parking lots for crack sealing, seal coating and restriping of parking spaces. This position will work under the supervision of full-time staff.


General Statement Of Duties: Performs varied duties which may involve the cleaning and maintenance of park grounds and facilities; and/or assisting park rentals; and/or monitoring park sites and facilities; and/or evening closures of Districts restrooms, facilities and gates; does related work as required.


Distinguishing Features Of The Class: An employee in this classification performs general labor on park grounds and facilities. Work is performed under the supervision of Structures Program Manager, although the incumbent may perform work under the lead of other Park Services staff. Supervision is not normally a responsibility of positions in this classification.


EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES PERFORMED:

  • Performs playground maintenance and removal of graffiti in the District's parks and open spaces.
  • Operates hand and power tools to clean paved surfaces.
  • Work as a member of the Departments asphalt maintenance crew, operating equipment used in surface preparation, cleaning, application of seal coat product, and striping of parking lot spaces including ADA parking spaces.
  • Provides assistance with carpentry and painting work on tables, shelters, benches, various signage, and other equipment.
  • Assists with installation of concrete pads for site amenities.
  • Removes debris and litter from sidewalks, park grounds, and parking lots. May assist with cleaning and stocking of park restrooms on a daily basis.
  • Monitors park grounds and facilities, and provides security for the summer concert series and other District special events.
  • Reports inappropriate activity, vandalism, or broken equipment to responsible party.
  • Helps Park Services staff coordinate and ensure that park grounds and facilities are in clean, safe, functional condition.
  • Consistently maintains a courteous and helpful manner to staff, patrons, and the public.
  • Performs other job-related duties or tasks as assigned.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:


Knowledge: Some knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in park maintenance and repair; safety practices and precautions in performing responsibilities.

 

Skills:  The operation of equipment used in small construction projects, as well as hand and power tools used in performing required duties. The ability to work with the public informing patrons of stated park rules as necessary.

 

Abilities: Understand and follow oral and written instructions; work in adverse weather conditions; deal courteously and tactfully with the public; establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the general public. Ability to use computer software programs for daily timekeeping, management and processing of purchase receipts, and maintenance management programs.

 

Physical Demands Of The Position: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to bend, twist, kneel, reach, and stoop, often in conjunction with reaching for or manipulating objects.   The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials such as bags, small equipment, leaf blower, etc. weighing up to 20 pounds often, up to 50 pounds occasionally, and seldom up to 100 pounds with assistance. Manual dexterity and coordination, including but not limited to grasping and squeezing, are frequently required for the entirety of the work period. The duties of the position involve standing for the vast majority of the work period. The duties of this position are most always performed outside, which means exposure to heat in summer and cold in winter is likely. Exposure to noise is moderate, and at times requires the use of ear protection while using noise-producing equipment. Persons with disabilities may be able to perform the essential duties of this class with reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodation will be evaluated on an individual basis and depends, in part, on the specific requirements for the job, the limitations related to the disability and the ability of the hiring department to accommodate the limitation.

 

Personal Protective Equipment: Hard hat, gloves, ear protection (ear plugs or muffs), particle mask, safety glasses, chaps, boots, long pants. Nitrile gloves for the administration of first aid.

 

Experience And Training: Any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the above-described duties.

 

Necessary Special Requirements: Valid driver's license; safe driving record. Must be 18 years old to operate necessary equipment. Because this job is considered safety sensitive, a drug screen test will be required prior to employment.

June:  7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

July, August, September:  6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
