We are currently looking for an Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Technician.

Professional development, lifestyle, future with the company

The position requires relocation to commuting distance to Wilson, NC. The location is 1 hour away from Raleigh, 30 minutes from Greenville NC, and less than a two-hour drive to the NC “inner banks” of fantastic natural features and beauty. The locations have very little traffic, and as we have built the team, professionals who have relocated here from more congested areas report that they are unlikely to return to that lifestyle.

East Energy has two large-scale WTE projects, currently under construction. Our small team has deployed more than $100M toward clean energy projects. We have a strong “promote from within” ethic from top to bottom and are looking for a professional who will become a strong member of the team. The pathway to promotion within the company is open to all levels of management positions, and the opportunity offers the unique situation of a small company (< than 30 employees)—and all the room for growth implied there—combined with the big company stability of projects based on very firm 15-year utility revenue and supply contracts.

Specific Accountabilities, Responsibilities and Duties

  • The Electrical Instrumentation and Controls Technician will collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to resolve control systems and process failures.
  • The EIC Tech will be the subject matter expert for the site in matters relating to control systems.
  • Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting control system failures and identifying solutions while educating peers and maintenance staff.
  • Work with engineering, maintenance, and operations to make necessary changes to equipment for process improvements, system upgrades, preventative procedures, product changes, and new product launches.
  • Improve equipment uptime and contribute to Plant reliability efforts.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop and implement standards to maintain the controls architecture and integrity.
  • Provide engineering technical support to maintenance and plant operations to deliver performance, safety, and quality improvements, as well as cost savings initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to engineering firms, construction contractors, and equipment vendors.
  • Share technical expertise to build controls knowledge and capability within the maintenance team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience (Engineering, Maintenance, Project management, Plant Operations)
  • Effective interpersonal skills, motivation, and commitment to lead and direct others to deliver results.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with experience delivering process improvements.
  • Strong working knowledge of Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley suite or similar of PLC and controls products (e.g., ControlLogix, PanelView, Factory Talk, Asset Centre, VFDs)
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial controls networks (e.g., Ethernet IP)
  • Strong working knowledge of process instrumentation
  • Working knowledge of OT (Operational Technology) systems and hardware
  • Ability to develop, read and interpret electrical drawings.
  • Working knowledge of industrial power and lighting applications, electrical safety, and power distribution
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Physical requirements include standing for extended periods requiring stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • All personnel will participate in a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
