Position Overview
We are currently seeking a Staff Scientist/Geologist to complete and support fieldwork in the Midwest and Great Lakes region with the potential for work throughout the US. Projects will include soil, sediment, soil-gas, and groundwater remediation investigations and feasibility studies, site characterizations, and regulatory compliance support for commercial, municipal, and federal clients.
This job can be based in the following office locations: Farmington Hills, MI; Sheboygan, WI; Akron, OH; or Oak Ridge, TN
Tasks include:
- Collecting field data on the physical and chemical characteristics of sediment, soil, surface water, ground water and soil vapor samples for remediation projects; field logistics for sample collection; maintaining daily logbooks; and quality reviews of field documentation.
- Coordinate and oversee field work including a variety of drilling/subsurface investigations, preparation of soil boring logs, installation of groundwater monitoring wells, and providing fieldwork oversight of subcontractors.
- Prepare and complete reports summarizing field events and sampling results, drafting routine reports, data summaries, and other paperwork compiling and organizing data from field activities for evaluation.
- Work productively with subcontractors and CTI staff while assuring work scopes and safety requirements are met.
- Collaborating with project managers and support staff on managing multiple site investigations and remediation field projects from work plan development through field effort and report preparation.
Qualifications include:
- B.S. Degree in Geology or Environmental Science.
- 0-4 years of experience.
- Conduct field work, including multimedia sampling, drilling oversight, and site inspections in all weather conditions throughout the year.
- Must be able to work outdoors all year and travel up to 60% of the time, including out of state overnights.
- Critical thinking and technical writing skills, including the ability to convey information at an appropriate level of communication with varying levels of project staff.
- Proficient using Microsoft office applications, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to learn quickly.
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA HAZWOPER and First Aid/CPR certifications preferred.
- GIT preferred for Geologists.
- ArcGIS and/or AutoCad
- Mechanical skills are a plus
Additional Requirements:
- CTI is a Drug-Free Workplace - Must pass pre-hire drug screen.
- Must possess valid driver's license.
- Must be able to physically navigate construction sites.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
