Summary:

Working under limited supervision, receive the direction from the Materials Manager and VP of Operations to drive goals related to Purchasing, whose focus is to support manufacturing operations. Requests quotes and finds sources of supply that meet cost, quality, and delivery objectives. Actively manages and evaluates supply chain with respect to supplier performance, looks for opportunities for improvement in cost, delivery, and quality. Manages inventory balances to be in alignment with company set goals. Review cost savings with suppliers and negotiate contract pricing. Cross-train with all commodities to provide support to other buyers.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Primary Duties:

  • Responsible for the metrics of Purchasing and leading the team to meet KPI’s set by Purchasing and Materials Manager.
  • Provide and track goals on cost savings.
  • Review inventory turns and work with Inventory and Mfg Engineering teams on excess and obsolete of purchased parts.
  • Run reports to ensure adequate inventory of purchased material is maintained to meet production requirements.
  • Work with commodity buyer to make suggestions on purchasing to get price breaks as well as assist in contract pricing and stocking agreements when available.
  • Source, develop, and maintain suppliers to support departmental and company Quality, Delivery, and Cost and Inventory objectives.
  • Maintain strong working relationship with suppliers, and utilize systems to monitor and report on supplier performance, coordinate and ensure corrective actions are taken as necessary.
  • Utilize connections to set up new supplier accounts.
  • Analyze supply chain for ongoing improvement in cost, quality, delivery, and recommend, implement, and report on improvement activity.
  • Promote positive internal customer relationships through regular communication with those customers and Materials Department personnel.
  • Seek out and follow through on implementing improved methods of procurement and control to further enhance the ability of personnel to provide on-time products, reduce costs, and improve production planning accuracy.
  • Develop department knowledge of business software system used to support materials and procurement processes.
  • Support Materials Management Department objectives and contribute to achieving the objectives.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives related to Purchasing and train to new processes.
  • Become the Subject Matter Expert in Packaging.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Secondary Duties:

  • Issue purchase orders and change orders for all commodities, ensure that proper internal documentation (requisitions/approvals) and external documentation (specifications, drawings) are provided to suppliers as needed.
  • Cross-train with all buyers.
  • Communicate timely and current information regarding material availability.
  • Maintain open communications with support departments in resolving day to day problems.
  • Perform Request for Quotes, select existing and/or source new suppliers, negotiate price and lead-time with suppliers and maintain this information in appropriate system data bases. Negotiate Purchase Agreements.
  • Provide sourcing and purchasing support to new product introduction projects/teams as assigned and as they relate to commodities assigned.

Education/Qualifications:

  • BA or BS degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 3 year’s Production Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated proficiency facilitating production/support process to meet customer demand.
  • APICS CPIM Certification desirable.
  • Experience with MRP system (Global Shop preferred)
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Packaging sourcing a must.
  • Outstanding analytical, verbal, and written communication skills along with the ability to interact with people at all levels of the organization both inside and outside the company.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Must be a quick learner and able to react quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with office machines including phones, copier, fax machine, and printers.
  • Must be able to navigate in a Windows based computer environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Work Setting

  • Combination general office setting with typical moderate noise levels in a temperature controlled environment and occasional subjection to open environment operational noise. Operates office equipment (computer, fax, copier, phone) as required to perform essential job functions.
