WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE

The primary role of this position is to manage the implementation and consistency of Food Safety programs at Bolthouse Fresh Foods. Responsible for ensuring all regulatory compliance with Federal, State, Customer, and Company GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) requirements. This includes maintaining documentation regarding HACCP, GMP, GAP, SOPs, and employee training. The Food Safety Manager is also a team leader for third party and internal audits. This position will oversee the Food Safety program processes throughout Bolthouse Fresh Foods, and will develop, implement and monitor company policies and procedures related to Food Safety. Coordinates and follows up on activities by performing the following duties personally or through designees.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain food safety policies, procedures, and protocols for all aspects of Bolthouse Fresh Foods operations.
  • Ensure food safety compliance with regulatory standards such as but not limited to: FDA, USDA, FSMA, etc.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and company standards.
  • Manages and executes the internal audit program. Works with plant personnel to develop and implement appropriate action plans for all audit observations. Assures that the corrective action plans are applied globally and consistently throughout the different plants.
  • Serves as one of the plants’ Safe Quality Food (SQF) Practitioner. The SQF Practitioner reviews and approves all plant document changes and validation changes for impact on the SQF system. The SQF Practitioner is responsible for developing and maintaining the plant Food Safety Plan program. The SQF Practitioner owns the development and execution of the validation and verification activities for all plant prerequisite programs, control measures and critical limits
  • Provide training and education to employees on food safety practices, including proper handling, storage, and sanitation procedures.
  • Interact with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate potential food safety risks throughout the growing & production processes.
  • Investigate and respond to food safety incidents, complaints, and non-conformances, implementing corrective and preventive actions as needed.
  • Stay informed about industry trends & new regulations to continuously improve our Food Safety programs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to food safety activities, including HACCP plans, flows, sanitation logs, & regulatory reports.
  • Responsible for maintaining Ag Food Safety Program for company’s in-house farming and outside growers farm operations.
  • Organize and conduct Food Safety Internal audits in most or all applicable growing areas but not limited to California, Arizona, Washington, Georgia, Oregon, Canada.
  • Effectively communicate regulation and program changes to management and growers.
  • Assist with investigation of customer complaints regarding food safety.
  • Educate/train growers, harvest crews and processing staff on the importance of Food safety guidelines and practices.
  • Collaborate with management, production teams, harvest, ag operations, suppliers, and regulatory agencies to communicate and address food safety concerns effectively.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with multiple departmental teams to ensure compliance with food safety program and regulations.
  • Travel required to multi-site locations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university, and/or 5+ years of food safety or industry related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in conducting third-party food safety inspections or similar regulatory programs.
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 15% of the time
  • Valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Familiar with food safety audit and certification procedures and inspections
  • Strong leadership, training, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of working in cross functional teams that may be internal or external to Bolthouse.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates and percentages.
  • Computer proficiency: word processing, spreadsheets, internet research, databases.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact with others.
  • Basic map drawing and reading skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in both writing and verbal
  • Master’s degree in food science or a related field; or combination of both education and experience
  • HACCP Certified

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment, a facility with frequent interruptions.
  • Operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
  • Ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
  • Ability to occasionally lift to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to various environmental conditions such as dust, dirt, wet, noise, and varying temperatures.

HOURS & WORKDAYS:

1st Shift – Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be mandatory based on department and business needs.
