Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico is seeking a Chief Development Officer (CDO) in Albuquerque. Job Type: Full-time

Salary: from $80,000 a year DOE

Job Summary: The CDO is the chief executive responsible for managing fund development and leading the fundraising team, meeting annual recruitment goals, creating campaigns and strategies for fundraising and mentor/mentee recruitment, acquiring/managing talent in staff and board, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring agency operates with gold standard mentoring practices.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


1. Chief Development Officer (CDO).

  • Set annual strategy and achieve goals.
  • Maximize opportunities for innovation, market competitiveness, relevance, high ROI, and quality services.
  • Strategize with Executive team on talent, risk, efficiencies, customer service, gold standards. Set/monitor gold standard goals/practices.

2. Manage Fund Development (Advancement) Department.

  • Manage staff and consultants and work alongside them to acquire donors, meet quotas, and provide excellent customer service. Includes use of donor CRM, table of gifts, and related fundraising tools, reports, and dashboards.
  • Provide data analysis, compliance, and fundraising/recruitment to achieve mission outcomes.
  • Set/monitor goals aligned with STRAP.

3. Fundraising: Lead team to achieve agency revenue goals.

  • Create primary and supplementary plans aligned with FY budget, including baseline and stretch revenue goals. Includes program and event budgets.
  • Develop/oversee all events/fundraising efforts.
  • Manage major and individual donors.

4. Recruitment: Set/meet annual mentor/youth goals.

  • Create mentor/youth recruitment plans aligned with agency program scorecard, with baseline and stretch goals. Includes special programs, satellite programs, all ABQ programs, and more.
  • Manage partnerships who serve as mentor/mentee resources.

5. Collaboration and Teamwork Outside Department.

  • Serve on committees dedicated to merging the talent and values of team members to ensure optimum customer satisfaction and mission outcomes.
  • Engagement with BBBS sister agency peers and community partners related to youth service.
  • Collaboration for innovation and solutions-based strategies.

6. Other Duties as Assigned.



Required Skills/Abilities

  • Minimum five years’ experience fundraising/sales.
  • Minimum five years’ experience managing staff.
  • Demonstrated excellent fundraising and/or sales and customer service competency.
  • Demonstrated leadership and stakeholder management competency.
  • Demonstrated competency in strategy, execution of plans, goal, and attainment.
  • Commitment to innovation and process improvement.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Extensive knowledge of community partners to drive mentor/youth recruitment preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of the donor community and funding opportunities preferred.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required. BA in social services, sociology, psychology, or related field is preferred; college transcripts will be required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.


Physical Requirements

  • Use personal vehicle to travel across multi-county service area, with primary work in/around metro ABQ.
  • Attend evening/weekend activities/events.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and computer for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds unassisted and 40 pounds with assistance.
  • Must have car, valid driver’s license, and meet state required automobile insurance minimums as well as pass a criminal background check.
