The Director of Development is responsible for leading all fundraising and development activities for major and planned giving. This includes developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan, identifying and cultivating donor prospects, and soliciting major gifts from individuals. ZERO maintains a database of over 400,000 donors. Upon a recent screening of the data, we have identified over 20,000 prospective major donors capable of making gifts of greater than $10,000. These prospects will make up the primary portfolio from which the Director can glean opportunities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan to meet organizational revenue goals
  • Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, cultivating relationships and soliciting gifts
  • Oversee fundraising activities including major gifts and planned giving
  • Develop compelling proposals and fundraising materials
  • Analyze fundraising data and provide regular reports on progress toward goals
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to align fundraising priorities with organizational strategy
  • Represent the organization externally and serve as an ambassador in the community
  • Stay current on fundraising best practices and trends in philanthropy

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Business Administration, or relevant degree
  • 7-10 years of progressive fundraising experience, including major gift solicitation
  • Experience in institutional giving and foundations
  • Experience with data analysis and planning for portfolio development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 10 preferred years of work experience, especially in the nonprofit sector
  • CFRE certification

Physical Requirements:

  • Constant use of a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as a computer printer, calculator, and copier
  • Prolonged periods of a stationary position at least 50% of the time
  • The ability to recognize details at close range for extended periods of time
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations

This role will report directly to the Chief Development Officer and will work closely with Development Team members to support ZERO’s mission to end prostate cancer. 

This position is based remotely and candidates may live in any area within the United States. This position will require nationwide travel approximately 25-35% of the time.
