The Austin Waldorf School (AWS) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Waldorf educator to assume the role of part-time Kindergarten Director. The Kindergarten Director oversees and leads the kindergarten section. The Kindergarten Director reports directly to the Pedagogical Leader and works closely with the kindergarten faculty, senior leadership, and administration. This position is being posted internally only.


Administrative Tasks


  • Implement the school’s kindergarten strategic priorities
  • Oversee and address the kindergarten’s organizational needs (faculty,

substitution, schedule, hiring, policies, protocols, calendar of events, etc.) 

  • Help define and support kindergarten policies and procedures
  • In collaboration with the Pedagogical Leader, support the hiring process and integration of new kindergarten teachers
  • Oversee the hiring of kindergarten assistant(s) and nap assistant (s)
  • Oversee the kindergarten budget and follow up on budget practices for direct reports
  • Be a member of the Pedagogical Council


Work with Kindergarten Faculty and Students


  • Lead the kindergarten section meetings by identifying, receiving, and prioritizing agenda items and ensuring follow-through.
  • Use established Dynamic Governance (governance model) practices to lead meetings, ensure that all voices are heard, and that decisions are made by consent.
  • Support the overall social health of the section by upholding best social practices between its members as described in the employee and community handbook.
  • In collaboration with the Pedagogical Leader, support the coaching, mentoring, professional development assessment, and professional development needs.
  • Oversee and guide the collaborative process of faculty and parents/guardians to address student support and discipline needs.
  • Oversee the student support needs, the creation of behavioral plans, and the delivery of services.



Work with Parent Community


  • Address parent questions and concerns as needed
  • Collaborate with teachers, mentees, and parents to address parents’ concerns and effectively resolve conflict
  • Develop, establish, and oversee the kindergarten and pre-k parent education program to deepen understanding of child development and our school culture.


Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in education 
  • Waldorf teacher training certificate and experience as a Waldorf educator
  • Minimum 5-8 years of successful Waldorf teaching experience, evidence of pedagogical mastery, having successfully led committee work and demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to listen, see diverse viewpoints, and maintain a calm, positive, and professional demeanor in the face of competing demands and external pressures 
  • Possessing skills in leadership and collaboration, relationship/team-building, ability to build consensus
  • Demonstrate skills in conflict resolution.
  • Personal qualities of maturity, humility, self-reflection, strong work ethic, and a “whatever it takes” or “can do” attitude
  • Support the mission of Austin Waldorf School
  • Acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to think and act strategically 
  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral) 
  • Demonstrates ability to hold financial and parent/faculty/staff matters in confidence
  • Skilled with Google Suite, data management, and other web-based tools
