Position title: Accountant

Position Summary
The Accountant is responsible for all general accounting functions including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Banking, Reconciliations, and General Ledger. Involved in design, testing, documentation, and implementation of overall financial management processes of the Exchange including month-end close responsibilities. Also involved in preparation of periodic financial statements, assist in preparation for and support of the annual external audits, and responsible for ad hoc managerial analysis and reporting as required. Will also lead Finance projects as business requires.

The Idaho Health Insurance Exchange, dba Your Health Idaho, was established in 2013 by Idaho House Bill 248. We are an independent entity overseen by a 19-member Board of Directors. Your Health Idaho is Idaho’s online marketplace where Idaho individuals, families, and small businesses can shop, compare, and choose the health insurance that’s right for them. We are also the only place where Idahoans can apply for and receive a tax credit that can pay for some or all of their monthly premiums. We serve over 120,000 Idahoans and support ~$500m in annual premiums. Your Health Idaho has received multiple awards for our culture and is recognized as a premier employer in the Treasure Valley.


Responsibilities (Position may include additional functions not listed)

  • Prepares daily banking entries and accounts receivable from carriers
  • Prepares monthly carrier invoicing
  • Prepares accounts payable runs and Automated Clearing House (ACH)
  • Performs analysis on revenue trends, member and premium analysis
  • Design, testing, documentation, and implementation of the financial management processes
  • Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options for the month-end close process procedures
  • Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents
  • Documents financial transactions by entering account information
  • Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options

  • Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
  • Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information

  • Verify, allocate, post and reconcile transactions
  • Prepares balance sheet accounts reconciliations for internal control procedures
  • Prepare financial statements for month-end and input to budget production process according to schedule
  • Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations
  • Prepares ad hoc financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications (Required knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, etc.)

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required; CPA a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of bookkeeping, accounting/finance experience.
  • Excellent Excel skills and experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
  • Experience with treasury and cash management
  • Ability to assume responsibility and maintain confidentiality consistent with the values and integrity of YHI.
  • Demonstrate ability to work within a quickly evolving organization, manage multiple, complex priorities and respond effectively to change.

Physical & Other Requirements

  • Ability to work in an office setting; use of normal office machines. Ability to listen to and understand others, as well as ability to give and receive instructions via telephone, computer messages in person, and in writing.
  • Occasional lifting or movement of materials up to 10 pounds.
  • Availability to work additional hours or weekends as projects demand.
