FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY:

The CFO is responsible for directing the fiscal and tax functions of the corporation in accordance with Statutory Accounting Principles, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and the Internal Revenue Code governed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, State Departments of Insurance, Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal and State Taxing Authorities, and other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct and manage accounting and financial operations for the organization.

  • Manage accounting and finance staff.

  • Present financial reports and analysis to the CEO, President/COO, and Board of Directors to assist in key decisions and accomplish fiscal goals of the corporation.

  • Treasury and cash management for all lines of business and investments.

  • Financial reporting to governing authorities monthly, quarterly, and annually.

  • Manage financial statutory requirements set forth by the Insurance Commissioner such as: risk based capital requirements and statutory deposits.

  • Maintain internal controls and protect company assets.

  • Manage all audit functions.

  • Support executive needs in developing accounting policies, financial and administrative systems, and the continuous improvement model.

  • Optimize handling bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.

  • Oversee cash flow process and reporting mechanism that includes cash operating needs.

  • Evaluate the finance division structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as provide individuals with professional and personal growth.

  • Oversee and manage banking and financial institution relationships.

  • Direct all cash management and accounting processes for insurance operations (ie: customer payments, customer refunds, claims cash handling, commissions) as well as administrative needs (payroll, payables, taxes, financial reports and filings).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTITIES: This position supervisors all accounting and finance staff.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Educational degrees must be from a US Department of Education accredited school.

  • Minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution.

  • CPA required.

  • Minimum of three years financial/accounting progressive management experience.

  • Must be a strong, hands-on and approachable leader who understands the value of being a team-player.

  • Must understand how to motivate and inspire staff to achieve optimal results, while keeping employee satisfaction high.

COMPUTER OPERATIONS:

  • Utilize complex computer operations (relational databases, and operating systems) and advanced features of software packages (word-processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.)

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals and financial reports.

  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, and boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.

  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.

  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTERATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to be covered by company's insurance.

  • Must provide proof of private vehicle insurance.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (copier, fax, etc.).

  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.

  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
