Q4 is looking for a WELDER / FABRICATOR to fabricate metal components and to assemble structural forms, including but not limited to frames, bridge parts, etc. using knowledge of welding techniques, and engineering requirements. Required to follow procedural instructions and analyze engineering drawings and specifications. The ideal candidate will be reliable and adaptable. Specific responsibilities include:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up, operate and maintain a variety of welding equipment.
- Document work by method of Traveler, including work tasks and durations.
- Work with Quality department to ensure part compliance, via email and quality documentation.
- Fabricate work pieces as determined by drawing specifications.
- Cut, weld, shape, trim and assemble a wide variety of metal parts.
- Determine the best approach to achieve desired outcomes; under supervision, rely on experience and exercise best practices.
- Preheats and cleans metals; lays out, cuts, and fits materials for welding; selects proper welding heat and proper type and size of electrodes for correct penetration and strength of welded metals.
- Lay out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.
- Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
- Cuts work piece, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife.
- Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Igniting flame or striking an arc while welding or performing other electricity-related work to weld part of a metal structure.
- Maintains records of processes for future use and traceability purposes.
- Miscellaneous projects as required.
- Maintains and makes minor repairs to welding equipment.
- Clean work area daily, replacing all tools and products to proper locations.
- Keep warehouse organized to ensure ability to produce product, keeping safety as a priority and be accessible to forklift and foot traffic.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in welding and fabricating. Experience with TIG and MIG welding.
- Knowledge of the standard practices, welding symbols, methods, tools, and materials of the welder’s trade.
- Ability to use machine tools, including but not limited to, Knee mills, lathes, tubing benders, slip rolls, shears, plasma cutters, band saws, cold saws, and use of various hand tools to cut, weld and fabricate parts from any material necessary to complete the project.
- Ability to weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Knowledge of the properties of ferrous and nonferrous metals encountered in welding work.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to measure, mark and cut, as well as match, materials for color, grain or texture.
- Must be able to work up to a 10-hour shift standing, bending and lifting.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
