Summary

This position involves test development for new and existing products, accurate procedures and test analysis to ensure solid data for development engineers to use toward advancing Hunter product lines. The position will be involved in understanding compliance and regulatory test to ensure all products are compliant within several global standards. Evaluate opportunities to improve, automate, or reduce test time on all current processes to drive time to market improvements. Design test fixtures and evaluate new and existing equipment/instruments for new tests. The position will also require actual hands on to conduct performance and compliance testing on Hunter products including but not limited to; ceiling fans, and fan controls. Maintain and service all lab equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the engineering manager, will conduct electrical and mechanical tests on a wide variety of Hunter Fan Products. In addition, may run tests on competitive products.

Confers with engineering, technical, and compliance personnel to resolve testing problems such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data and data interpretation.

Coordinate activities concerned with development, procurement, installation and calibration of instruments, equipment and control devices required for safety and compliance testing.

Develop test methods, procedures, and reports for new R&D or compliance tests.

Sufficient knowledge of schematics and wiring diagrams and the ability to interpret circuit functions.

Maintain test procedures

Evaluate current procedures for improvements

Review compliance reports

Maintain LabView programs

Maintain lab equipment

Conduct air delivery tests on ceiling fans per DOE regulations

Will set up and conduct life tests on any Hunter product as directed.

Must be well organized and have the ability to read and interpret technical documents such as UL standards.

Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings. Should have the ability to fabricate parts from the drawings.

Familiar with and have the ability to use basic hand tools and power tools.

Travel up to 20%

Education/Experience Requirements

B.S. degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering preferred.

Special qualifications or skills

Programming skills – National Instruments LabView

Experience with data collection and instrumentation

Experience using and maintaining lab equipment

Machining skills – ability to use standard machine shop equipment (Lathe, Mill, Saws)

Physical Demands- must be able to lift 50 pounds

Analytical- synthesizes complex or diverse information

Problem Solving- identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Gathers and analyzes information skillfully

Technical skills- strives to continuously build knowledge and skills, shares expertise with others

Language skills- ability to read and interpret documents such as operational standards, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical skills- ability to work with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

Reasoning ability- ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Computer skills- Microsoft Office, Solidworks and/or Creo (a plus)
