Summary or Scope:
As a Chemical Manufacturing Line Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the production process in the ink and pigment manufacturing plant. Your primary focus will be on ensuring the efficient operation of production lines, troubleshooting equipment issues, and implementing process improvements to optimize productivity and quality. You will be supporting accurate maintenance of process documentation and providing direct line of communication with the process engineering team. You will aid shop floor control in staging and accounting for materials consumed in process for accurate yield and inventory reporting and management. The line engineer will take into consideration all process output requirements in daily tasks and troubleshooting which include but not limited to yield of product, cost of materials, efficient operation, consumption of raw materials, and wastewater processing implications. The line engineer will be responsible for responding to all process activities including ink and pigment manufacturing. You will be trained in hoist and powered industrial truck operation, fitted for a full faced respirator and may require licensure for wastewater operations (requires licensing by an outside agency-N.E.I.W.P.C.C.).
Responsibilities and Duties
- Monitor and manage production activities on the manufacturing lines to ensure that products are manufactured according to specifications and quality standards.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
- Coordinate with maintenance staff to ensure that production equipment is properly maintained and serviced to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
- Work closely with quality and process engineering personnel to monitor product quality and identify and address any issues that may arise during the production process.
- Ensure that all production activities comply with safety regulations and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
- Provide training to production staff on new processes, equipment, and procedures to ensure that they are properly trained and capable of performing their duties effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of production activities, including production volumes, downtime, and quality control measures, for reporting and analysis purposes.
- Support shop floor control for inventory and material usage control and documentation.
- Facilitate monitoring of process yields and costs to ensure efficient operations.
- Lead process improvement activities navigating control systems i.e. Management of Change, Red Tag, etc.
- Provide support during assigned shift including some weekend coverage as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or related field preferred.
- 1-5 years of previous experience in chemical manufacturing or a similar industry.
Required skills, knowledge and abilities:
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Able to prioritize multiple tasks, attention to detail.
- Flexible to adapt to changes.
- Strong team player and achievement oriented with a positive attitude.
- Able to lift and maneuver 5-gallon buckets weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Able to stand (work on your feet) for the majority of a ten-to-twelve-hour workday.
- Able to wear process required personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
- SAP or similar inventory control software familiarity.
- Comprehensive understanding and use of 5s and Lean manufacturing practices.
