REPORTS TO: Food Service Manager

POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Exempt

ABOUT MANNA:

MANNA is a nonprofit organization in Philadelphia providing nutrition services to improve health for people with serious illnesses who need nourishment to heal. By providing medically tailored meals and nutrition education, we empower people to improve their health and quality of life.

Over the past 30+ years, MANNA has been a leader in evidence-based nutrition services, bringing together dietitians, chefs, drivers, and thousands of volunteers to cook and deliver nutritious, medically appropriate meals, and provide nutrition counseling to neighbors who are battling serious illnesses such as cancer, renal disease, and HIV/AIDS. After moving to a new, state-of-the-art facility and completing an in-depth business planning process, we are building a modernized organizational structure to support the scale and complexity of our growing and evolving work.  

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Production Chef serves as a pivotal role in the operations department; assisting with the production of medically tailored meals for the MANNA clients, overseeing and adhering to the facilities quality improvement plan to ensure safe food production practices and production of high-qualities meals, welcoming and assisting with daily volunteer groups and individuals, and providing instructions and supervision to the porters on duty. The Production Chef candidate must be very well organized and detail-oriented with good cooking and interpersonal skills, experience working in a large production kitchen environment is a plus. They must be able to oversee and direct volunteers with no food service experience and varying degrees of abilities as well as function in all aspects of the essential job functions and duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in the production of all meal preparation.
    • Preparing and cooking high-quality dishes.
    • Ensure company production guidelines are followed.
  • Adhere to the production of standardized recipes to ensure the proper preparation of all menu items per MANNA’s 3-week cycle menu and diet modifications.
  • Implement and adhere to all CQI processes and procedures to produce, maintain, and deliver culinary and food safety elements that align with food safety compliance and operational standards.
    • Plan, execute, and monitor exceptional Food Safety and Health and Safety standards.
  • Oversee and give instructions to the porters, making sure all job duties, assignments, and protocols are followed.
    • Monitor efficiency and timeliness of all porters.
  • Meet, greet, and assist all volunteers, making sure they are properly instructed on their assigned task and address any questions or needs throughout their shift.
    • Monitor that all volunteers are following instructions given, including portion management and production unit guidelines.
  • Complete assignments as directed by the Food Service Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Follow organizational policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
