Job Summary:

The Milwaukee Women’s Center provides comprehensive services and treatment for individuals whose lives have been affected by domestic violence, addiction, mental health issues, homelessness, and poverty. Our Older Abused Women’s Program (OAWP) helps women age 50 and older who are victimized by their partners or adult children. The Outreach Coordinator provides community outreach and education, case management in home visit settings, client intakes, and other program services as needed for the Milwaukee Women’s Shelter and the Older Abused Women’s Program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide intake, assessment, and ongoing case management for Milwaukee Women’s Shelter guests referred to the program for support. These responsibilities will be mainly the home visit form of case management, as opposed to in-shelter case management.
  2. Provide referral resources to meet client needs.
  3. Develop individual service plans and goals based upon intake notes and client feedback. As part of case management, each client should develop a written Safety Plan.
  4. Provide community outreach and education, trainings and presentations on program services to various service providers, the faith community, and other organizations for the Milwaukee Women’s Shelter and the Older Abused Women’s Program.
  5. Make monthly visits to various senior centers in Milwaukee to provide educational group sessions.
  6. Plan, direct, attend or coordinate outreach activities to bring awareness to the community of the Milwaukee Women’s Shelter and the services provided.
  7. Reach out to solicit and increase outreach and community educational opportunities.
  8. As needed, assist the OAWP Outreach & Community Case Manager in facilitating support groups.
  9. As needed, answer Crisis Line calls or OAWP client calls.
  10. Evaluate services provided, including presentations, trainings, groups, and case management services.
  11. Participate in meetings held in the community to develop, improve and increase access to community resources and services to clients.
  12. Track data for reports required by the agency and funding sources.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field preferred or a combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years Prior Work Experience working in residential settings and working knowledge of community resources.
  • Proven ability to develop needs assessments and safety plans.
  • Strong ability to work effectively with colleagues within the organization and in the community.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide services to clients with diverse social, ethnic, cultural, economic, and religious backgrounds and sexual orientations.
  • A working knowledge of the cycle of domestic violence and the impact on family, community and the individuals being provided services.
  • Ability to work in diverse settings and provide culturally competent services.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Pre-employment drug screening and background check required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in Spanish, spoken and written.
  • Previous experience working with diverse population, including those living in low-income, distressed neighborhoods.

Physical Requirements

The position requires driving, navigating stairs, bending, stooping and infrequent lifting up to 10 Lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Schedule Requirements

This role operates Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Occasional requirement to work some evenings, weekends and holidays.
