What it's like to be a Steel Detailer

As a Steel Detailer at Met-Con, Inc., you will be responsible for creating detailed drawings and models of steel structures, ensuring accurate measurements, and collaborating with architects and engineers to bring designs to life. Your keen eye for detail and ability to think critically will be put to the test as you analyze and interpret complex blueprints. In this role, you can anticipate working in a fast-paced environment, where deadlines and project timelines are crucial. You will have the opportunity to showcase your problem-solving skills as you troubleshoot design issues and provide innovative solutions.

Your work will directly contribute to the success of our construction projects, making you an integral part of our team. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional after-hours work as needed to meet project deadlines. You can rely on the support and collaboration of our talented professionals, who are always ready to provide guidance and assistance when needed. Are you a good fit for this Steel Detailer job?

To excel in the role of a Steel Detailer at Met-Con, Inc., you must possess a unique set of skills and expertise. A strong understanding of steel construction principles and practices is essential, as well as proficiency in utilizing various software and tools. As a Steel Detailer, you can expect to work with software such as AutoCAD, Revit and primarily Tekla Structures to create accurate and detailed drawings. Familiarity with these programs will allow you to efficiently generate 2D and 3D models, facilitating effective collaboration with architects, engineers, and our construction team. Additionally, a keen eye for detail and the ability to accurately interpret complex blueprints are crucial skills for this role.

You should be able to analyze and identify potential design issues, offering innovative solutions to ensure structural integrity and optimal construction outcomes. Strong communication skills are also vital, as you will collaborate with various stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. The ability to effectively convey technical information and work collaboratively in a team environment is key to your success as a Steel Detailer.
