General Summary

The Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant (I-ECMHC) is responsible to provide early childhood mental health consultation to support Marillac St. Vincent staff, children and families.

The I-ECMHC will provide a broad range of services, including early childhood mental health consultation in classrooms and through home visits; training and coaching staff; screening, assessment and referral services; providing parent trainings. The I-ECMHC will collect data, maintain records, and support compliance in all facets of Federal and State regulations.

Responsibilities:

  1. General Classroom Observation, and Coaching (40%)
  • Conduct classrooms observations by visit each classroom at least once per month.
  • Provide child development information related to social-emotional development and mental health.
  • Provide guidance to staff on selecting, implementing, and interpreting social-emotional screening and assessment tools and findings.
  • Provide guidance and model developmentally appropriate activities for children and effective ways to work and support young children.
  • Provide written and oral observations and strengths-based feedback to classrooms on an annual basis.
  • Meet with classroom teams to review classroom observations. Develop and implement plans as needed.

  1. Staff Training (10%)
  • Coordinate and provide staff trainings related to social-emotional and mental health issues at least one quarterly.

  1. Parent Training (5%)
  • Coordinate and facilitate parent training at least one per year.
  • Work with Family Support Service team to recruit participants for the training.

  1. Individualized child and Family-centered observation & consultation (20%)
  • Conduct observations and assessment of individual children as assigned or referred for consultation.
  • Meet with family (parent/guardian) to consult on child and family needs. Create or follow up on plans to support these needs.

  1. Individual child screening, assessment, and referral (5%)
  • Conduct standardized developmental, behavioral, social-emotional screens and assessments for individual children as assigned or referred for consultation.
  • Provide child and family referral and follow up to community services.

  1. Other (20%)
  • Complete relevant Mental Health and Wellness activities documentation and data entry in the data management system.
  • Attend to interdisciplinary team meetings and case staffing with Family Support Services staff, Education teams, parent-educators doulas, youth workers, Speech-pathologies, art therapist, nurse, diverse learners’ team to coordinate support plans for parents/guardians or clients.

Knowledge

  • Demonstrated understanding of infant and early childhood mental health.
  • Demonstrated understanding of differences in mental health services and concepts across cultures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child mental health services system.
  • Demonstrated experience with clinical documentation.
  • Experience formulating and writing assessments and support plans, preferably for young children. Experience with evidence-based practices and curricula to promote early childhood mental health is desirable, e.g., Incredible Years, Parents as Teachers.
  • Knowledge of Head Start is desirable.

Education & Training

  • Master’s Degree required, preferably in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field.
  • Clinical license
  • Minimum of 2 years direct experience in a mental health setting providing prevention services
  • and/or mental health therapy to children and families.
  • Certification LSW, or LCPC or Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) preferred.
  • Bilingual/bicultural English--‐Spanish preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to manage physically active children ages 3 to 5.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 to 25 pounds.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and auto insurance when the position requires an employee to operate a motor vehicle in connection with executing the position’s responsibilities, which include driving to and/or from any agency function.

Screenings:

  • The applicant must submit to a criminal background check and a child abuse and neglect screening and maintain a cleared status throughout employment.
  • The applicant must submit to and pass a TB and health screen, including MMR and Tdap immunizations upon hire and update TB/physicals as required by the licensing standards. Additional Requirements:
  • Regular travel locally and occasional travel to other locations in the state.
