The Accounting Department at Action Inc. is expanding & we are seeking a full time Grant/Financial Reporting Accountant to join our team. The mission of Action Inc. is to build an equitable and resilient community by creating opportunities for all on Cape Ann.

Summary: Reporting to the Controller and working alongside the Staff Accountant, Accounting Manager, and A/P Supervisor the Grant and Financial Reporting Accountant ensures the integrity of Action's accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions. Providing expertise to advance department goals, the Grant and Financial Reporting Accountant works with the CFO, Program Directors, and Department Managers on budgets and financial reporting and analysis.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, EXPEMPT

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares monthly and quarterly grant billings, reconciles, and provides periodic financial reports to Program Directors. Responds to financial questions/concerns.
  • Analyzes programmatic financial statements for unusual fluctuations.
  • Prepares account analysis and reconciliations for various balance sheet accounts.
  • Maintains fixed assets schedule and calculates depreciation expenses.
  • Prepares and posts journal entries for contract billing invoices, prepayments, net asset releases, depreciation expenses, and other month-end adjustments.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Team, Program Directors, and Managers to develop grant budgets and cost-reimbursement contracts.
  • Participates in organizational efforts to improve and integrate financial and reporting system.
  • Manages the yearly contracting process with external agencies to ensure completeness of contract and grant information.
  • Assists with fiscal year-end external audit and regulatory filings, including preparation of the 990, MA Form PC, and UFR.
  • Monitors trends and regulatory changes that affect the organization.
  • Performs additional duties as needed to support the functioning of the department.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in the field of Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field, required.
  • 5+ years work experience in finance or accounting.
  • 2+ years of experience in grants management and non-profit accounting.
  • Proficient in GAAP, understands finance concepts and cash management.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Experience with iSolved, MIP or similar software system.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, along with effective problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Microsoft Office, including Excel, required.
  • Willingness to work primarily in an office environment.

Physical Requirements: This position requires the employee to sit and/or stand for a majority of the day. Constant hearing, seeing, talking, communicating, reading, writing, and typing in an indoor environment.
