Job SummaryThis individual is a key member of the legal team and will be based out of Melbourne, FL. This person will help advance the Company’s continued product development and claims coverage review to conform with all applicable laws, caselaw, and regulations as well as with internal policies and procedures.Role and Responsibilities

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and should demonstrate the following competencies to consistently perform the essential functions of this position. All employees are expected to adhere to and be knowledgeable of Orion180 operations standards, established security/safety rules, and requirements for attendance. The requirements listed below are representative of the fundamental knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the job successfully:

  • Analyze statutory, caselaw and legal developments to determine the applicable compliance impact on all Orion180’s lines of business.
  • Assist with consumer complaints, and other regulatory inquiries.
  • Provide general legal advice regarding claims coverage and related issues.
  • Assist with overseeing claims litigation issues.
  • Assist with oversight of outside Claims Counsel.
  • Assist with the review, drafting, and updating of Orion180 products.
  • Assist with general legal advice regarding coverage questions.
  • Monitor state-specific laws, bulletins, circulars, and alerts to ensure claims and product compliance.
  • Participate in cross-functional compliance initiatives to ensure compliance in all areas of the Company.
  • Assist in the review and drafting of company contracts and agreements.
  • Create, review, and ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.
  • Identify and document processes and oversee compliance with all reporting requirements.
  • Draft or review and revise memos and alerts assessing law, statutes, and regulations.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • J.D. required.
  • 5 years of Florida or other state Bar experience required.P&C Insurance expertise required.
  • Knowledge of admitted and surplus lines insurance products required.
  • Prior insurance company and/or law firm claims litigation experience preferred.
  • State Insurance Department/regulatory experience preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to balance multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong legal research skills.
  • Highest level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
