General Purpose:

A registered nurse with advanced preparation providing adult health care to adults experiencing physiologic problems, and related social or behavioral concerns. The Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) and Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP) exercises independent and interdependent decision-making with direct accountability for clinical judgment.  The APRN / ANP works in association with and under the supervision of a licensed physician. The ANP may perform acts of medical diagnosis, treatment, and operation in accordance with a protocol established between the Adult Nurse Practitioner and the supervising physician, as allowable under state law/practice acts.

Essential Functions:

  • Elicits a comprehensive health history, including an evaluation of the patient’s developmental maturation, physiologic/psychological and functional status, cultural orientation, risk factors for illness and health-promoting behaviors and support systems.
  • Performs a complete physical examination on adults.
  • Orders and/or performs pertinent diagnostic tests, health screenings and treatments.
  • Analyzes and interprets the data collected to determine health status and formulates a problem list as needed.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates, and modifies, as needed, with the patient, a plan of care to promote, maintain, and restore health.
  • Coordinates the services required to meet the patient’s health care needs.
  • Records all pertinent data about the patient including the history, physical exam, problems identified, interventions provided, results of care, and plans for consultation, follow-up or referral.
  • Completes other assignments as requested and assigned.
  • May have access to personal health information (“PHI”) necessary to fulfill the above duties and responsibilities.  Access to use and ability to disclose PHI is further defined by each organization/department.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with active advanced practice license in the state in which he/she is employed.
  • Currently certified as an Adult Nurse Practitioner by the ANA, or other national accrediting board.
  • One (1) year experience as Adult Nurse Practitioner within the last five (5) years or as required by contracted employer.
  • Able to provide proof of current Basic Life Support (BLS) training.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:  

  • Able to effectively communicate with clinical and non-clinical staff and individuals.
  • Able to work autonomously and effectively in a multidisciplinary model.
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of computer and workplace software.
  • Demonstrates skills in consultation, collaboration and systems management providing effective restorative care.
  • Evidence of malpractice insurance with professional liability coverage of at least $100,000 per claim with a minimum annual aggregate of at least $200,000 from an authorized insurer under the law (as required by the State).
  • Meets applicable health requirements to provide patient care.

Working Conditions & Physical Effort:  

  • Work is performed in clinics, schools, hospitals, nursing homes or occupational settings.
  • Work environment involves frequent exposure to communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens and/or potentially infectious or hazardous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment (e.g. face masks, goggles, latex or non latex gloves).
  • Able to stretch, bend, stoop, twist, stand, sit, walk, reach and climb stairs.
  • Able to work flexible schedule and/or evening hours as needed.
  • Able to travel as needed.
  • Requires normal, correctable vision and hearing.
  • Physical activity is medium and may require frequent lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs.
