Position Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for collecting and analyzing data in conjunction with the production area in order to identify alternatives for total or partial automation of equipment or processes. The Manufacturing Engineer will aim to optimize and continuously improve manufacturing processes within standards of cost, safety, and quality.


Main Responsibilities

  • Process Optimization: Lead efforts to optimize winding processes, including coil winding, insulation, and varnishing, to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Upkeep: Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of winding equipment to ensure optimal performance, minimize downtime, and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Evaluate winding process performance and propose the acquisition/improvement of alternative equipment, monitoring tests and adaptation to the production process, within the required standards.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Collaborate with R&D and product development teams during the NPI process to ensure manufacturability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of new motor designs.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality control measures throughout the winding process, including inspection procedures, to ensure adherence to industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the winding area, utilizing lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and other improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve issues related to winding processes, equipment, or materials promptly, employing root cause analysis and corrective action to prevent recurrence.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and protocols in the winding area, conduct regular safety audits, and implement corrective actions as necessary to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Technically coordinate the preparation and execution of action plans aimed at optimizing and reducing losses and waste of available resources, such as: machines, tooling, devices, materials and labor.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or related discipline required. Experience in lieu of education may be considered.
  • 4-5 years of experience in industrial manufacturing engineering or similar capacity, with a focus on winding processes as related to electric motors preferred.
  • Understanding of winding techniques, equipment, materials, and best practices strongly desired.
  • Experience in electric motors strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with production planning software and ERP systems required. Prior SAP Experience preferred.
  • Experience with modeling software for design and analysis purposes such as Autocad required.
  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma Experience helpful, but not required.
  • Strong working knowledge of office tools including; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint essential.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities required.
  • Must be able to frequently sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
