Commercial Credit Analyst

The primary purpose of this position is to assist Community Credit Union of Florida in living out our Mission, “Always improve the financial well-being of our members and make a positive difference in our community,” by delivering outstanding service to both internal and external members. A key element of excellent service is to identify the financial needs of each member and recommend an appropriate credit union solution. In addition, the Commercial Credit Analyst is responsible for preparing and underwriting commercial requests and otherwise assisting with the evaluation of new and existing credits in compliance with credit union lending policies and procedures. The incumbent promotes business for the credit union by maintaining good member relations and referring members to appropriate staff for new services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Demonstrates enthusiastic support of corporate mission, core values, and long-term objectives by performing job duties within our bylaws, regulations, Board of Directors policies, established internal and external service standards, and our work procedures while possessing adequate product knowledge as measured by the annual product knowledge assessment.
  2. Delivers service to both internal and external members that is in alignment with the credit union’s Service Promises, and meets all established service goals.
  3. Abides by CCU’s Service Promises when helping a member or co-worker to ensure timely responsiveness to the individual’s needs. Promotes teamwork, respects opinions, abilities, and contributions of others, and conveys a willingness to assist and cooperate with others for the benefit of the organization.
  4. Assists in attaining established departmental goals and adheres to all credit union standard operating policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations and guidelines. Monitors compliance of individual credits and the Commercial portfolio.
  5. Performs risk-based analysis of the financial condition of applicants within the framework of the credit union culture and current economic and industry trends. The incumbent underwrites Commercial loan and line requests and adheres to the credit union standards and policies, placing an emphasis on quality of service and member education.
  6. Performs due diligence and analyzes all information necessary for decisioning loan requests and renewals, prepares requests on behalf of lenders for their review, and makes recommendations. Consistently applies good decision-making techniques pertaining to inquiries, approvals, and requests as they apply to existing policies and procedures. Approves loans and renewals within established loan limit authority or refers and recommends acceptance to the VP, Commercial Services, Commercial Loan Committee, and Board of Directors as needed. Understands and follows the established Commercial Services department organizational procedures and guidelines. Actively monitors regulatory updates and changes and applies changes to workflow.
  7. Works with lenders and consults with legal counsel and other resources to recommend loan structures that benefit the member and protect the credit union.
  8. Analyzes existing Commercial portfolio loans annually and reports any concerns or deterioration in individual credits. Collects financial information annually, organizes, and completes a required level of analysis. Responsible for recommending Risk Ratings adjustments according to Commercial Loan Policy. Works with borrowers, legal counsel, and other Commercial Services team members to work out troubled loans in the portfolio.
  9. Negotiates credit terms, costs, repayment methods, and collateral specifications, within lending authority.
  10. Follows policy and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP), and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) daily to ensure compliance with current regulations.
  11. Performs other duties associated with loan approval and portfolio maintenance as requested.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS

These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the position in a satisfactory manner. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in accounting, business, finance, or economics preferred; or five (5) to eight (8) or more years of related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Work-related experience should consist of a financial or lending background, exceptional customer service and sales background. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school or financial industry-related curriculum, should be business or financial industry-related.
  • Commercial underwriting and financial spreads experience is required. SBA, agricultural, public entity, and/or participation underwriting experience preferred. Experience calculating key lending rations such as debt service coverage, loan-to-value indicators, and concentration levels.
  • Advanced skills in computer operation, word processing, spreadsheets, technical software applications, and typing skills to meet the production needs of the position. Prior experience using Wolters Kluwer CASH Suite or comparable software.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.
  • Knowledge of related state and federal lending and compliance regulations, and other credit union lending policies.
  • Intermediate math skills; calculate interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to influence internal and external peers and high-level leaders. Proven ability to coach others, interpret documents, understand procedures, and speak clearly to members and employees.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multi-task, ability to work with minimal or no supervision while performing duties, and be a strong team player.
  • Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.

The incumbent must be able to perform this position safely, without endangering the health or safety to individual or others.
