Local coffee company is growing and seeking an experienced Controller to manage our accounting. The ideal candidate must have: solid communication, technology, analytical, and management skills; an excellent attention to detail; an understanding of small business practices including processing payroll; and is willing to roll up their sleeves and help where needed. The candidate should possess knowledge of all aspects of GAAP and be thoroughly familiar with QuickBooks and integrating point-of-sale software. This multi-faceted role will be a deeply integrated member of the leadership team and will provide input and advice on strategy, controls and operations decisions.

Typical duties of a controller

  • Processing all accounting operational functions including payroll, AR, AP, reconciliations, etc
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
  • Processing and preparing internal and external financial statements including tax matters
  • Coordinating activities of external auditors
  • Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process
  • Managing the budget process
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Evaluating, developing, and deploying accounting and internal control systems
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed
  • Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • Records management
  • Compensation and benefits management
  • Compliance with Washington & Idaho State and Federal employment laws
  • Strategic Development

Preferred additional skills include:

  • Ability to demonstrate exemplary leadership and talent development of the Accounting team.
  • Being meticulous in organization
  • Ability to wear multiple hats at one time
  • Quick learner on new technology platforms
  • Self-starter with track record of working with minimal resources and willing to perform a broad range of tasks in order to complete objectives
  • Experience in solving multiple and complex challenges through critical thinking and cross-functional collaboration. Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, and flexibility to pivot working in an entirely remote environment.
  • 5+ years experience as Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Computer literacy (MS Office, Google Platforms, ADP, Quickbooks, etc)
