Job Title: Speech-Language Pathologist

Reports To: SHNH Clinical Director

Positions Supervised: Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

Position Summary

Under supervision of the SHNH Clinical Director, the Speech-Language Pathologist provide assessment and treatment of elementary- and/or secondary school-aged children with developmental or acquired disorders, including neurological, physical, psychiatric, and/or multiple disabilities. The Speech-Language Pathologist is a contributing member of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with families, program staff, and other key stakeholders to improve outcomes and to promote wraparound care. The Speech-Language Pathologist serves as a clinical consultant to a caseload of children across settings, providing staff professional training as part of their program consultation. Maintains compliance with applicable regulations and policies and engages in ongoing professional development and systems improvement in effort to support systems-wide interventions as well as direct/indirect interventions for children.

The Speech-Language Pathologist is provided with a laptop, cell phone and email to perform job duties. Travel may be required.

Qualifications:

1. Pass a fingerprint-based background check of the state and national criminal history databases.
2. Master’s degree, preferably in speech-language pathology, communication disorders, or communication sciences and disorders.
3. Professional licensure required in speech-language pathology. American Speech-language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) highly preferred. Dual licensure/certification highly preferred.
4. Supervised training and experience designing and implementing comprehensive speech-language therapeutic services to students within their natural environments.
5. Provides direct and group therapy sessions to students. Demonstrates knowledge and competence in the applications of AAC systems.
6. Demonstrated skills in a variety of observation and data collection techniques; speech-language therapeutic assessment and intervention techniques; proficiency with competency-based training and monitoring.
7. Training and experience with clinical supervision of speech-language therapeutic services.
8. Knowledge of human development, learning, communication disorders, education, and abnormal psychology.
9. Computer literacy/proficiency, including experience working within electronic health records (EHRs).
10. Excellent writing skills with experience preparing clinical reports and progress summaries.
11. Excellent verbal communication skills with experience leading clinical meetings, sharing case information to support staff, and presenting to other clinical disciplines.
12. Strong understanding of human rights, self-determination, and individualized treatment planning.
13. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
14. Ability to work flexible hours as required.
15. Valid driver’s license and evidence of a safe driving record.

Essential Functions:

1. Delivers a continuum of comprehensive speech-language therapeutic services and supports to students within their natural environments.
2. Conducts speech-language therapeutic assessments and evaluations.
3. Develops, monitors, and evaluates comprehensive speech-language therapy treatment plans.
4. Maintains responsibility for staff/caregiver training, coaching, and on-site technical assistance as a means of ensuring accurate treatment plan implementation.
5. Generates objectives and prepares clinical reports and progress summaries evaluating progress toward treatment objectives.
6. Uses creative problem solving to explore innovative solutions for barriers to speech-language therapeutic service implementation.
7. Participates in the client’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or similar person-centered treatment planning process, collaborating with other members of the team to promote continuity of care.
8. Designs and/or conducts staff training on clinically related topics. Provides on-site coaching and training to SHNH staff specific to implementation of the Foundation’s current crisis management curriculum.
9. Provide clinical supervision to Speech-Language Assistants and/or students enrolled in graduate training programs.
10. Participates in the intake process as directed/requested.
11. Develops and maintains supportive working relationships with the individual’s families/guardians.
12. Maintains confidential records (e.g., assessments, treatment plans, clinical reports, progress summaries), completes mandated reports (e.g., incident reports), and participates in mandated reviews as per regulations.

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Adhere to the American Speech-language-Hearing Association’s Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice.
2. Complete and/or maintain required staff training, including training in a Foundation-approved crisis management curriculum.
3. Work in collaboration and in support of the Seven Hills Foundations’ operating subsidiary.
4. Actively promote and positively role model philosophy, mission, and core values of the organization. Foster an environment which promotes SHF Core Values (i.e., respect and kindness, integrity, teamwork, innovation, service to others).
5. Implement SHF policies and procedures and funder regulations, inclusively.
6. Complete and maintain all required training, certifications, and/or licenses.
7. Treat clients served, associates, guests and other stakeholders in a respectful and dignified manner.
8. Safeguard sensitive and confidential data.
9. Respond effectively to potential safety hazards and emergencies.
10. Follow maintenance and safety protocols.
11. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to drive.
2. Ability to lift up to 25lbs. without assistance.
3. The employee must perform activities required to participate in physical restraint in relation to the appropriate size of staff and student. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision, and depth perception.
4. Physically able to perform job responsibilities including actively moving, standing, walking, use of hands, reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lifting to 40 lbs.
5. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and remain awake and alert while on duty.
