JOB DESCRIPTION


The Lindop District 92 Coordinator of Special Services provides leadership in the development and implementation of a state-of-the-art, proficiency-level, research-based instructional program of all students with learning, behavior, and health challenges. The Director oversees the special education department and serves as the Records Custodian. In collaboration with the District 92 administrative team, the Director will lead the District in the development and implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and problem-solving strategies and assist in ensuring that special education services are consistent with the mission of Lindop DIstrict 92 and Lindop School. The Director  will be responsible for working with the Director of Business Operations to ensure that all data submitted to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is accurate. The Director  is responsible for implementing Board of Education policies and administrative procedures as they relate to key functions. In accordance with I.D.E.A., the Director will organize integration of Special Education and Related Services in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) Continuum into the school-wide program and alternative placements. The Director would also be responsible for implementing Board of Education policies and administrative procedures in relation to key functions in accordance with I.D.E.A., coordinate Accommodations and Modifications for integration of 504 students into the school-wide program. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for working closely with the building leadership to implement testing accommodations, and applicable modifications for testing, as well as entering student data into SIS.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Instruction

  • Direct and assist special education staff in the operation of programs.

  • Plan, recommend, and initiate innovative instructional programs, as needed.

  • Provide input to the Principal to assist in recruiting, hiring, and evaluating special education staff.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of curricular and instructional options that provide appropriate state-of-the-art and proficiency-level, research-based instruction for all students who are challenged.

  • Coordinate support services (OT/PT, APE, Vision, School Social Worker, etc.).

  • Communicate professional development needs to the Director of Curriculum and the Superintendent. Assist in providing and monitoring training to all staff.

  • Facilitate writing and implementation of Section 504 plans.

  • Ensure implementation of state-of-the-art, proficiency-level, research-based instruction in special education programs.

  • Assist in determining and implementing appropriate options on educational continuum (Tier I, Tier II, Tier III).

 

Leadership

  • Coordinate building level support service teams.

  • Collaborate with Principal, Director of Business Operations, Director of Curriculum, and Superintendent in budget preparation.

  • Participate in the evaluation of the special education program.

  • Develop and monitor policies and procedures relating to special education and related services.

  • Act as liaison with appropriate referral professionals (PAEC, psychiatrists, psychologists, private providers, and other community agencies).

  • Represent District 92 as a participant on various committees, task forces, or networks.

  • Attend and participate on District Committees.

  • Coordinate with high schools for articulations with 8th graders’ transitions from middle to high school.

  • Attend all board meetings and present regarding specific topics as needed and as assigned by the superintendent.

 

Resource Management

  • Develop and implement federal and state grants as assigned.

  • Prepare three-year evaluation lists.

  • Process referrals for special education services and monitor timelines for case study evaluations and re-evaluations.

  • Schedule, chair, and facilitate IEP meetings.

  • Monitor legal procedures/compliance with state and federal statutes and regulations related to special education (I.D.E.A., Section 504, FERPA, etc.).

  • Prepare the I.D.E.A. grant application for special education.

  • Compile, prepare, and submit accurate reports as required by federal and state agencies.

  • Oversee state and District assessment accommodations.

  • Arrange transportation for students who need special education buses or cabs.

 

Other District Services

  • Coordinate outside personnel for specialized evaluations as needed.

  • Complete special projects or reports as directed by the Superintendent.

  • Serve as the District 92 Records Custodian for Special Education.

  • Assume additional tasks as designated by the Superintendent.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Education, Special Education, or Related Field.

  • Illinois General Administrative (Type 75) endorsement preferred. Illinois Director of Special Education endorsement desired, but not required.

  • 3-5 years administrative experience.

  • Doctorate desired, but not required.
