Hours: 8:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week
The Public Health Nurse II will provide program/client services in Communicable Disease (CD) areas which include Immunizations, Tuberculosis (TB), HIV Testing and Counseling, Communicable Disease follow-up, Outbreak Management, and International Travel using federal, state, and local laws to support public health intervention and practice. This role will also involve education for peers and within the community.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Coordinate TB program, following the Agreement Addendum
- Conduct State TB audit
- Develop and update TB policies, procedures, and standing orders in conjunction with CDC, NCDPH guidelines and NC Administrative Codes
- Perform TB active disease case investigation
- Obtain history for TB cases, including contact investigation; provide medication by direct, observed therapy and education
- Monitor TB medication inventory and ordering of medications
Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited nursing school, BSN preferred. Public Health clinical rotation, previous public health/CD experience preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
License: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Must also have a valid NC driver's license. Non-BSN nurses must complete the Introduction to Public Health Nursing course within the first six months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must be extremely flexible, work independently, work as part of a team and possess good decision-making skills
- Knowledge of public health concepts, nursing theory and practices, general medicine and programmatic requirements of funding sources and administrative understanding of the public health nurse role
- Ability to secure cooperation of clients to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships
- Accurately record services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instruction
