Qualifications

  • BSEE or BSME preferred but not required
  • 3-5 years of experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC
  • Extensive experience and/or education in design, troubleshooting vision applications
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and push/pull up to 1000 pounds on a mold cart
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to read and understand instructions in English
  • Must be certified to operate an overhead crane
  • A basic understanding of injection molding machines and robots

Job Responsibilities (included but not limited to)

  • Repair and troubleshoot existing robots and PLC programs
  • Support or lead the design and development of new robots and PLC programming
  • Modify existing robot programs if needed
  • Identify current process inefficiencies and propose improvement
  • Construct new automation cells and workstations
  • Develop and maintain all robot process sheets
  • Order parts for end of arm tools and safety cages
  • Meet with the Engineering Manager and effectively communicate all progress, challenges and opportunities within the robots and PLC programming
  • Work with other department managers in a team atmosphere
  • Improve efficiency and reduce waste if possible
  • Other duties assigned by the Engineering Manager

General Description

The Automation Engineer position is responsible for supporting operations by troubleshooting and programming new and existing PLC controls and robots for our two plastics facilities in Goshen and Elkhart. The ideal candidate will be self-directed and committed to completing projects correctly and in a timely manner. Being able to work in a team environment with Maintenance, Processing and Production is required on a daily basis. The Automation Engineer will report directly to the Engineering Manager.
