Summary/objective

This is a full-time on-site role for a Civil Designer at CEDARVILLE Engineering Group, LLC (CEG) located in Pottstown, PA. The Civil Designer will be responsible for performing day-to-day tasks including civil engineering design, erosion control, site plans, stormwater management, and other related activities.

Essential functions

  • Drafting and Design:
    • Create detailed drawings and plans for civil engineering projects including roads, highways, water and wastewater systems, land development, and site layouts using CAD software.
    • Develop plans, sections, and details from sketches and conceptual design drawings.
    • Prepare topographic and contour maps from survey data.
  • Plan Preparation:
    • Prepare layout drawings and schematics for construction projects.
    • Generate detailed drawings for grading, drainage, utility systems, and other civil engineering components.
    • Produce as-built drawings that reflect final project specifications.
  • Data Management and Analysis:
    • Organize and maintain CAD files and project documentation.
    • Ensure all drawings are accurate and updated according to project changes and revisions.
    • Conduct quantity take-offs and prepare material lists from drawings.
  • Collaboration and Coordination:
    • Work closely with civil engineers and project managers to understand project requirements and objectives.
    • Coordinate with other drafters, designers, and team members to ensure consistency and accuracy across drawings.
    • Assist in the development of project schedules and deliverables.
  • Quality Control:
    • Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project standards and specifications.
    • Implement quality control procedures to ensure high standards are maintained.
    • Identify and resolve discrepancies or issues in drawings and plans.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure that all drawings and designs comply with local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
    • Incorporate comments and revisions from regulatory agencies into final drawings.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Prepare documentation to accompany drawings, including notes, specifications, and other necessary details.
    • Compile and submit drawing packages for client review and approval.
    • Maintain records of revisions and updates to ensure traceability and accountability.
  • Software Proficiency:
    • Utilize CAD software (such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D) proficiently to create and modify drawings.
    • Stay updated with the latest software developments and tools to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Technical Support:
    • Provide technical support and guidance to other team members regarding CAD software and drafting standards.
    • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving CAD-related issues.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in CAD and civil drafting.
    • Contribute to the improvement of drafting standards and processes within the organization.

Required education and experience

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and construction methods.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Associate’s degree or certification in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in civil drafting and design.
  • Erosion Control and Stormwater Management skills.
  • Experience in creating site plans.
  • Knowledge of stormwater regulations and best management practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
