Job DescriptionJob Description

The Seedling Child offers an Academic Year Program that is closely aligned with the academic year calendar of the Alameda Unified School District. The Seedling Child Academic Year Program begins early August and continues through the end of June.

Work Hours: (8:00 am–2:30 pm) Monday-Friday (Can be semi-flexible)

Job Description

Teacher responsibilities include the care, safety, and education of the children in the Program. The Teacher is responsible for arranging and maintaining an organized, orderly environment that is stimulating, developmentally appropriate, and responsive to the ongoing needs of the children. The Teacher will be expected to participate in the continuous development of curriculum, activities, and materials for the center. The Teacher will also be expected to supervise Teacher Aides and volunteers in the classroom.

In addition, the Teacher must maintain the health and energy levels needed to work with young children. The Teacher must uphold a positive, open, and professional attitude towards management, other staff members, families, and children.

Responsibilities

1. To supervise and nurture the children in the Program.
2. To establish and maintain an environment for children that is clean, safe, attractive, and that is appropriate for each child’s developmental level.
3. To advance children’s’ motor development and intellectual competence.
4. To support children’s’ social and emotional development and provide positive guidance.
5. To establish positive and productive relationships with families.
6. To ensure a well-run, purposeful program responsive to participants’ needs.
7. To maintain a commitment to professionalism.

Job Qualifications

Verification of one of the following prior to employment:

a. Completion of twelve postsecondary semester or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development completed, with passing grades, at an accredited or approved college or university; and at least six months of work experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program.

(1) The units specified in a. (above) shall include courses that cover general areas of child growth and development, or human growth and development; child family and community, or child and family; and program/curriculum.

(2) Experience shall be verified as having been performed satisfactorily, at least three hours per day for a minimum of 50 days in a six-month period, as a paid or volunteer staff member under the supervision of a person who would qualify as a Teacher or Director under this chapter.

b. One of the following Child Development Permits issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing:
(1) Child Development Associate Teacher Permit; or
(2) Child Development Teacher Permit; or
(3) Child Development Master Teacher Permit.

Ongoing Job Requirements

Health and Immunization Requirements

Prior to employment, the Teacher must provide proof of health and immunizations as mandated by the State of California (including Health Screening, TB test(s), and immunizations). Thereafter, the Teacher must provide ongoing proof of health and immunizations as mandated by the State of California or The Seedling Child Board.

Mandated Trainings

The Teacher is required to complete ALL trainings that are mandated by the State of California and Licensing. These trainings must be renewed as required and the certificates of completion provided to The Seedling Child as required by law. ALL trainings must be completed by the deadlines given to them. These trainings include but are not limited to:

1. Sexual Harassment Training
2. Integrated Pest Management Training
3. Basic Pest Management Training
4. Mandated Reporter Training
5. Integrated Germ Management

Health and Safety Training

The Teacher must complete 15 hours of Health and Safety training. These trainings must be taken through the American Red Cross or a program that has been approved by the Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA), and include:

1. Pediatric First Aid
2. Infant and Child CPR
3. Preventive Health and Safety

In addition, a Teacher hired after January 1, 2016, must show proof of completion of one hour of Child Care Nutrition Training, through a program approved by the Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) or an accredited college or university.

Thereafter, the Teacher must renew and maintain current certification in Infant and Child CPR and Pediatric First Aid. The Teacher must also attend annual on-site training on the Incidental Medical Services that are provided to students by the School.
