Job Summary:


The Outreach Specialist responds to people with mental and/or substance use disorders, behavioral, housing, financial, and other social service needs. This individual will identify individuals in the community who would benefit from mental health or substance use treatment services, engage current clients who are not participating fully in treatment, and/or re-engage clients who have stopped attending treatment. The Outreach Specialist will function as a role model to peers, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills, serving as a consumer advocate, and providing information and peer support for clients in outpatient, intensive outpatient, and/or community-based settings.

Roles and responsibilities will include the following but not limited to:


  • Schedule, plan, coordinate, and participate in community trainings and events related to mental health, substance use awareness, and other matters of public health importance.
  • Motivate community members to actively participate in their mental health and overall well-being.
  • Actively network to build and maintain positive relationships with community members, providers, agency representatives, supervisors, and office staff.
  • Engage as a community health worker, providing patient navigation services and assisting them with accessing competent health care services.
  • Engage community members and local agencies via social media, presentations, and written communication to promote health and mental health awareness.
  • Curate, create, and disseminate public health and mental health information.
  • Participate in fund-raising activities to support A Beautiful Mind Inc’s facilitation of community events.
  • Collect and maintain data from participants in community trainings and events.
  • Prepare communications, such as memos, emails, reports, and other correspondence.
  • Keep complete records of outreach events, activities, contacts, and the people reached.
  • Plan and execute outreach and education activities both in-house and in the community; coordinate the necessary materials and staff for the events.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or certification in a behavioral health field is preferred; in place of a Bachelor’s degree or certification, the candidate must have at least three years working in a relevant professional role and a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience conducting community outreach and knowledge of community agencies and resources.
  • A valid driver’s license, verifiable good driving record, and reliable transportation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; effectively working with people (staff, clients, doctors, agencies, etc.) from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and problem-solve.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, email systems, and adaptability in learning new software.
