Job Overview: We seek a driven and detail-oriented Associate Legal Counsel to join our team. This role involves significant interaction with members, management of committee activities, and addressing complex issues in insurance insolvencies and legislation. The ideal candidate will be a versatile legal professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is committed to advancing the effectiveness of guaranty funds.

Attorney Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and analyze legislative and case law developments and communicate impacts to staff and members.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on relevant legal issues. Engage actively with members to understand their needs, providing expert advice and support as appropriate.
  • Attend, lead, and support association meetings, delivering presentations and facilitating discussions at NCIGF events and industry organizations, including the NAIC.
  • Serve as project manager for various insolvent company committees; facilitate meetings and committee activities; identify, monitor, and analyze developing issues, ensuring an effective resolution.
  • Provide staff support for standing committees, including facilitating meetings; preparing and distributing meeting notices and agendas; and keeping meeting minutes.
  • Draft, review, and oversee legal documents and corporate contracts.
  • Review and ensure organizational adherence to corporate policies and statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist on other legal projects and initiatives as needed.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school; background in insurance, insolvencies, or bankruptcy preferred.
  • Licensed to practice law in Indiana and in good standing; other professional designations, such as CPCU, are highly regarded.
  • At least one year of legal experience in the insurance sector or a regulatory/legislative role.
  • Strong critical thinking, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team on projects.
  • Availability for overnight travel within the United States, sometimes with minimal notice.
