Job Summary:


Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President, Operations will be responsible for managing employees across all areas of the business and posses ultimate leadership and P&L responsibility for the division. The Vice President, Operations will be responsible for driving growth and improvement across the division while fostering a positive, collaborative work environment.

Essential Job Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for providing leadership across operations, supply chain management, construction operations and working with all supporting business functions.
  • Lead, represent and be accountable for financial, safety and other such related performance within the division.
  • Clearly understand and communicate the division’s financial budget and associated EBITDA goals.
  • Display situational awareness related to the division’s current financial performance and forecast.
  • Oversee all roles and responsibilities related to the division’s staff including Area Directors, Estimating and Safety personnel.
  • Prepare and implement a plan for the covered business units that promotes growth of each given unit and their capabilities; Ensure consistency of that plan with the division’s strategic plan and goals.
  • Prepare, communicate and be accountable for accurate and timely financial forecasts, budgets, and projections; If financial challenges are encountered, quickly define, implement and monitor corrective action plans.
  • Actively participate in bid reviews to ensure estimate accuracy and risk/opportunity assessment consistent with overall company expectations.
  • Identify and support opportunities for company growth with emphasis on opportunities that enhance all products and services offered by the company.
  • Coordinate with Company fleet/equipment resources to ensure equipment assets are adequate and that utilization is proper to validate existence of such.
  • Establish, maintain, and foster a positive safety culture emphasizing behaviors that promote safe work practices; Ensure Company’s safety programs are implemented and that there is zero tolerance for non-compliance of minimum safety standards as set by the Company.
  • Emphasis on continued quality and efficiency improvement.
  • Build and lead a high-performing operations team, providing mentorship, guidance & fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Diagnose current division strengths, technical expertise, and future opportunities. Structure employee-engagement approaches, identify and prioritize critical issues & key improvement areas.

Additional Accountabilities:

  • Strong, positive, and inclusive leadership with emphasis on driving results and mentoring/developing/coaching a Team.
  • Measure and monitor performance of the business, to include full P&L responsibility for division; Adjust quickly and as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with and be open minded to all ideas of the upper-level team teams.
  • Multitask, troubleshoot, and make difficult and decisive decisions in a timely manner and in the best interest of the company.
  • Drive safety performance and results of internal Team Members and ensure contracting partners have appropriate safety measures in place while on Company jobsites.
  • Proactively implement management tools to facilitate sales growth and divisional efficiency.
  • Develop good, lasting professional relationships with local customers and partners to ensure the Company is a preferred provider of services and services.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • 10+ years of proven experience in construction, open trench /utility or trenchless pipe rehabilitation or related field.
  • Experience in public and private contracts administration.
  • Experience with safety, materials, asset, and quality management.
  • Must possess excellent, inclusive communication skills designed to cover all potential stakeholders.
  • Must be able to lead and work with others and maintain an open mind and positive attitude.
  • Bachelors in business management, civil engineering, construction, construction management or related field (MBA is a plus).
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel on short notice.
