JOB SUMMARY

The Science Teacher at Flint Hills Christian School is responsible for creating a Christ-centered, educational atmosphere in the classroom, and for guiding student growth in the sciences.

  • Reports to Principal / Head-of-School
  • The science teaching position will have a special emphasis in the areas of Life Science, Earth Science, Biology, Anatomy, Health, and AP Biology.
  • A successful applicant will be a Christian with at least a Bachelor’s degree in an applicable science field. Special consideration may be given to an applicant who also has an education degree.
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required. Applicants will have a current teaching license or the ability to receive their license either through state licensing or through ACSI.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

To plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in a secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential in learning the science curriculum. The teacher will embed biblical awareness into the curriculum. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal.

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons and instructional materials that facilitate active learning of science at each appropriate grade level.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Participate in department, school, and parent meetings.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Prepare the classroom for class activities.
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in class activities.
  • Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments.

PHYSICAL & WORK REQUIREMENTS:

  • Professional appearance appropriate for school and community meetings and events
  • Evening and weekend work as needed

REQUIRED BACKGROUND, COMPETENCIES & EXPERTISE:

  • Proven and successful experience working in formal and/or informal educational contexts with elementary or secondary students
  • Proven relationship-building effectiveness
  • Proven collaboration experience working with a broad team
  • Proven oral and written communication skills and effectiveness
  • Proven planning and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated classroom management capabilities
  • High learning agility and adaptability
  • Personal faith in Jesus Christ with a passion for Christian education
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in a field of study relevant to this position

PREFERRED BACKGROUND, COMPETENCIES & EXPERTISE:

  • Advanced degree from an accredited college/university in a field of study relevant to this position
  • Valid teaching certificate/license
  • Proven experience as an elementary teacher
